the MART stores have a lot these little range finders for golf in them right now after christmas and was wondering if anyone had one for getting shooting ranges correst... i've never taken one out of the box and played with it but from what i see from the outside is there must be a known range from which to go by in first place... how do they work??

They usually work by bracketing the flagstick to give you a distance. If you are trying to determine the distance of something the exact same height as the golf range finder is calibrated to - it would work. But not all flagsticks are the same height and the USGA doesn't have a spec.

I see where you're going. If the thing is calibrated to 6ft for example it's close enough for man sized stuff and maybe deer too. Good Luck!
