That pretty much sums it up. I've heard that the Classic Cast single stage is an excellent press and I have a Classic Turret so I know first hand that its an excellent press. I've never used a Pro 1000 or Loadmaster, but from what I've heard about them calling them finicky would be an understatement. Besides I'm not all that keen on an aluminum progressive press. I have a Lee Reloader single stage that I use for light duty tasks, but anything requiring any effort gets done on either my LCT or Rockchucker. I don't think that aluminum is really up to the tasks I'd want a progressive for.

Yes, I'd like a Dillon or Hornady Lock n' Load AP, but the price is more than I can swing right now. Lee always seems to win on price point and their cast products are of excellent quality. I'd like to see something along the lines of a updated Pro 1000 with a cast frame, better priming system, no chain activated powder measure, 4 stations, and more clearance for rifle cartridges.

Anyone heard anything about a cast progressive in the works?

I load .380, 9mm, .38, .357, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, .223/5.56 and 7.62x39 in a Lee 1000 progressive with no problems. Been using it for the last 3 years+, without any structural problems. All aluminum is not made alike. Just as not all cast iron is alike, The strength is in the alloy, not the name.

Write to Lee, They will tell you what you need to do to a 1000 to achieve your "dream Pro 1000." They have the parts to convert the powder measure to one that uses the round to activate it, and the parts to convert from 3 die to 4 die stations.

I size and deprime everything in a Lee ALUMINUM "D" frame press. This allows for an initial inspection before too much effort has gone into a case. Then prime all my cases with a Lee hand primer. This allows for a second inspection. Then I can do everything else in a standard 1000 setup. Flare case, seat bullet and crimp, or just seat the bullet and use a FCD to do the final crimp.
