Will they ever produce civilian legal Steyr AUGS again?

I don't know the answer but if they do, I hope they won't be $2,000+ like the FS2000's are. I can't see myself paying that much. Maybe for a semi auto RPD LMG but not for a 223 rifle.

If the AUG does come back, then there will be rifles that I will skip out on.

Supposedly Steyr is in the process of bringing the AUG A3 to the US civ market within the next year.

For whatever it is worth - Steyr has even confirmed that they are doing this and are actively pushing to bring Steyr back to the forefront of American shooting.

Actually, Steyr has had the finest 9mm on the market for the past 5 years (M9 and M9A1) but there wasn't enough marketing for it.

One Steyr rep that I spoke to said that they are specifically trying to be the "anti-HK" in terms of customer service.

After the SHOT show (or something similar) when the word first keaked that FN was releasing the P90 and F2000, Steyr immediately brain stormed that there was a HUGE market for high end, military rifles in the US.


Actually, Steyr has been a good company for a long time: even after the AUG was banned by name in the Clinton or Bush the First ban, they released the USR, which was an AUG except with a tiny bar, which thereby made it a "thumbhole stock".

When that was banned they figured someone had it out for them and they pulled out.

Now, hopefully, Steyr can release some of its fine firearms for us (especially their new .50 cal that uses Flechette ammo).

The most modern & sophisticated rifle design is essentially 50 years old (AR15). Heck yeah there's room for high end modern military rifles!

Talk is that they'll have to set up a US plant to assemble and produce key parts in order to not be under the import restrictions. Whether or not they beleive there's enough of a market to justify a plant is heresay. THere is a guy in OR or WA that's starting to produce AUG parts, rumor on that is he'll start tooling up for complete rifles.

I saw an AUG at my local gun shop, but it isn't for sale. It would be nice if we could get the '89 AWB repealed so we could get genuine Russian, Chinese and Romanian AK's as well.

Steyr sold, literally, TWO .50 rifles to Iran about six years ago for testing. I still can't figure out why people wet themselves over this.

The A3 has a removable and replacable optic and the mount itself is picatinny which allows for just about anything to be mouted as an optic.

Also, they added some rails to allow for lights/and whatever the hell else people want to add.

What's up with that rail/carrying handle/scope-ish looking thing? Not that i'm saying it looks bad, but why is that on the "sniper" version as opposed to the other.....?

I think it has to have the 20" heavy barrel and removable bipod to be considered the "sniper" configuration.

This is the grenade launcher configuration with the grenade sight attached to the top of the removable telescopic rifle sight.

Guys, come one, this has been Errornet gun nut fodder for years. This, as well as the prior silliness about building HK91s, 93s and 41s in Georgia has consumed an enormous amount of bandwidth.

I cannot believe that ATFE will allow their production. Can someone give me a date and then when they are not here can we agree that they AUGs, and the 91s will never, ever be here under current law? Please?

I wouldn't mind a AUG A2, standard configuration and 9 mm conversion kit in my closet, though.
