I have seen several threads asking about new triggers for their AR style rifles. The rifle was designed for combat, and thus their triggers are made to be reliable and safe in adverse conditions (and don't forget cheap too). For anyone not happy with their factory setup, there is a host of options available and several good names to give your money to.

Wilson Combat makes 4 versions of their Tactical Trigger Unit (TTU), and I got to try all of them this weekend. I just wanted to take a moment and share my thoughts on them. This isn't a "better than" thread, but I will do my best to describe the distinctive feel of each. This is also subjective since I don't have a trigger pull gauge to give real figures. Factory info can be found here: http://shopwilsoncombat.com/Trigger-Units/products/258/

And a stock photo for now, I will try to get some real pics tonight:

The Good:
  • ALL 4 of them have a clean, frictionless break. There is no grit or dragging feeling.
  • Single drop-in assembly. No tuning needed
  • For those nervous about a precision trigger in an AR, there is a half-cock hammer position similar to 1911's.
  • Rated for hard primers

The not so good:
  • One of the higher priced triggers on the market. What's your budget?
  • If you WANT an adjustable trigger, this isn't it
  • Solid construction, but parts are not interchangable with commonly found ones if you need something in a hurry

So, what's the difference in the models?
Single Stage
Just what it sounds like. Squeeze with deliberate but not hard pressure and before any noticeable movement the shot breaks . There is minuscule overtravel and a short reset.

2-Stage
Take up the slack in the trigger and you feel smooth tension until you reach a stopping point. Once there, apply just a little more pressure and you get a crisp break. Reset is almost, if not all the way, back to the trigger's resting position.

3-Gun
This is an interesting one. Their site describes it as a rolling 2-stage trigger, but I had no idea what that means. The first stage is just as smooth as the normal 2-stage, but when you get the second stage the stop isn't as deliberate and you can pull through for the shot. This is where the trigger earns its title, with a seemingly motionless reset for a FAST followup shot. You never really even feel that you have started to release the trigger before you can feel the definite release of the disconnector and trigger engagement.

Mil/LE 5-5 3/4
Where the standard single stage is rated at 4#, this is rated higher for when the extra pull weight is required. Though more pressure is needed, it is still crisp and produces a clean break/solid reset.
