Alright guys I picked up a pound of win 296 and I am wanting to use it for full tilt 44 mag loads what is your favorite load with this combo

My favorite load that I have been loading for several decades is a 200 gr. JHP with 28.5 grs. of 296 or H110. I always recommend using a published start charge with any powder, but to be honest, this powder is designed to operate best at full magnum pressures, therefore reducing the published start charge is not recommended, just use the data as it appears.

A few simple tips to follow when working with 296 or H110.

Don't reduce the start charge!

Always use magnum primers!

A firm roll crimp is necessary!

Wear hearing protection!

Hold on tight, you will definitely get your money's worth in terms of full house magnum performance.

Max charge of W296 and Hornady 240gr XTP shoots quite nicely out of my 6" 629 and my Marlin 1894. CCI LPM primers.

210gr Gold Dots are a blast as well, but a little too pricy.

I mostly shoot 240gr MBC Smashers with 10.0gr of Unique.

A 320 gr hardcast bullet over 21.0 grs of 296. It's a game getting combination out of a scoped SBH or RH.

gamestalker already published my load. I shoot that out of a Ubertti/IvarJohnson Cattleman with a 18 inch barrel with or without my accessory shoulder stock.

Not supposed to reduce charges of Win 296 very much in 44 Magnum. With 240 gr. Jacketed bullets I wouldn't go below 22 grains and would stop at 24 grains. I like 23 grains with 240 gr. Hornady XTP's with CCI 350 primers in pistol and rifle. Check your manuals.

I like 23.5 gr of H110/W296 under a 240gr JHP/JSP. This works well in the 629s and the carbines. JHPs for target shooting JSPs for deer.

300 to 310gr bullet with 19-20gr.
Depends a lot on what bullet, I just found a sweet Keith style flat based 310gr that should allow me to go to 20 or maybe a bit over.
