Years ago I used 452AA as a target load in 45acp with good results. The powder has been off the maket but I recently picked up several lbs at an old gunshop for a good price. Now I can't find any data other than an old Winchester brochure that recommends 4.5gr with a 185gr SWC. That load shoots fine in my Colts but it won't reliably cycle in my Sig. Anybody got any idea what the max load might be for 452AA with a 185gr LSWC?

WINCHESTER'S 452AA IS THE SAME STUFF AS HODGDON'S TRAP 100, or vise versa.

There is data in the older Hodgdon's manuals and in several of the older SPEER manuals for this propellent under both names.

WST replaced 452AA, but I don't know that it's "the same." I've been using 5 grains of WST with a 200 grain LSWC. Was using 5.4, but found that was over max in all references I could find. Strange -- I could have sworn I got it out of some reloading manual.

When 452AA was available, I used 4.7 grs under 200 gr cast lead SWCs. Mighty sweet load.

Now I use 4.7 grs WST under a 200 gr. cast SWC. Mighty sweet load, can't tell the difference, except that WST may be a little bit cleaner.

4.5gr of 452AA is a nice powderpuff load in the Colts but won't reliably cycle the Sig. I was hoping to go to 5-5.5gr (with a 185gr SWC) but can't find any published data on 452AA or Trap 100 to support my decision. Anybody tried this recipe?
