Hello everyone,

My win small pistol primers have been on back order for ever. I have the chance to exchange the Win for CCI small pistol primers for the same price and they are in stock. I've never used CCI always been Win.

What are your opinions?

Thanks

Thanks for the replies, I'll tell them to send me the CCI's. Like it was said, bettter to have something.

You and I must have received the same email from Cabela's today. :)

Nothing wrong with CCI, I may change my order too.

The only problem I have ever had with CCI is that they must be harder than Federal because I have had trouble with them going off in match revolvers. In pistols they work great.

Lee doesn't say that. They say their basic primer holder isn't safe with too many Federals in it.

I use Fed exclusively and reload in a Lee Turret Press.

The Feds will fire 100% of the time in a gun with a light trigger/hammer spring.

Your message prompted me to go check my email -- I got the same Cabelas email.

The only issue I have is CCI primers are a less expensive primer than Winchester. For example, current Graf's price for 5k primers:
CCI = $109.99 ($22/k)
Winchester = $137.99 ($27.60/k)

So Cabelas offering me CCI primers at the Winchester price doesn't exactly appeal.

I'd betcha 29 cents that Winchester doesn't make their primers anyway. Just has their name on them, like their powders. Probably don't make their ammo either.

I hear ya Ala,
I like Federal primers in my revolvers with Winchester brass.

Not a thing in the world wrong with Federal primers. I have used both CCI and Win small pistol primers lately working on lite .357 loads as well as .38 loads, and the CCI seem to give slightly less velocity. Sometimes I have had to go up .1 Grs with the CCI 500 vs WSP. Work great though. I have 2K of Fed small pistol primers, but I have been "hoarding" them.

Winchester primers tend to be just a bit hotter then CCI. I keep both at my loading bench. Not partial to Remington primers and I haven't taken the time to try Federals.

CCI is my preferred primer in all applications. In the reverse of the OP, I find winchester, with their soft naked brass cups, to be the least desireable of the common commercial stuff.

CCI vs. Win Primers

Not a thing wrong with Federals either. There was a time when they became a little scarce in my area and I went to all Win. I, like a lot of you, have had an order in with Cabelas since forever. I got the notice today as well and did not hesitate to go with CCI. I started out with CCI, as a matter of fact, and never had a problem with them just migrated to what was available with a more steady supply of Wins.
This still only covers half of my order with Cabelas though as I also have small rifle primers ordered as well. I have instructed them to keep me on the backorder list for shipment of the WSR primers ASAP. Order has been in since September but what the heck- good price by todays standards.

Bad Cabelas

Ya I got the same email. I placed my order over 8 months ago for a 1000 each of win LR, LRM, SP and have yet to recieve it. How long have your orders been on back order? Mine was placed in 8/09 and I will choose to wait for the winchesters. Since this has happened I have been using Natches, Midway, Missouri bullets for all of my reloading needs. I learned that it's cheaper for me to order from these companys and there customer service is better than cabelas when it comes to reloading supplies. I have read online that customers going into some cabelas stores are able to buy winchester primers off of the shelf, so I'll take my mail order's someplace else from now on. I tried to get Cabelas to tell me where Im at on the back order list but they keep sending me the same reply that the product will be in at the end of the current month, been getting this reply for 8 months. :banghead:

I got the same email but I'm gonna wait em out. I've got plenty of CCI 500's but I could still use a few WSP's.

Mine have been on order either 11 or 12 months.

:)

I use WSP and CCI #500 and think they are both great. I started on CCI #500's and used them for a long time until finding a local source for cases of WSP. I can't tell any difference other than color.
