I have a question about WIN 9mm 115gr fmj target ammo. It is available as WWB of 50rds or WIN Value Pack of 100 rds..

I read or heard somewhere there was a difference between the two WIN 115 gr fmj plinking/target rds. I recently read that some of the WIN 115gr fmj target/bulk ammo came from overseas.

WWB of 50 rds:
Listed on the WIN USA site
Comes in a box of 50 with individual styrofoam pockets for each cartridge.
Listed as 1190'/sec--(136.9 PF)
Costs substantially more per rd than the WIN value Pack of 100 loose cartridges.

WIN Value Pack of 100 :
NOT listed on the WIN USA site
No data available

Has anyone else heard of any quality/performance/manufacturing differences between these two?

I have shot both (50 vs 100) and haven't really noticed any difference. I just thought the 100 round value packs were the same bullets in larger packaging.

Me too. All of it is pretty low quality as far as performance and reliability. To this day though, winchester is my favorite 45acp brass.

they look like the same ammo when I buy them, don't know about a different powder charge, you'd have to run both over a chronograph to really figure that out.

WWB runs in everything I have in 9x19 (or .45acp, for that matter) and is cost-effective ... it may not be match ammo but it is reliable and the 100-round packs generally have 101 or 102 rounds in them.

I found this on THR

Sean...They're theoretically the same..but they're not the same. If you'll hit the link above, you'll see that the 4172 and the one with VP suffix are both 115-grain 9mm loads, but 4172 is loaded to a higher quality standard than the VP....likely brass or bullets that were QAed out as "Seconds" or maybe loaded with an end-run of powder. Hard to say why...but there has to be a reason that with (theoretically) the same ammo, one is so much cheaper than the other, besides packaging.

Like I noted earlier...I've noticed a difference in both .45 and 9mm, though I haven't chronographed or targeted any of the 9 for accuracy.

Posts abov this said:
Didn't meet the 50 rd box QC requirements
Imported from Israel
Inconsistent Chrono results

There are a number of recent posts about the 100 pack having FTF and FTE problems.
Just looking for more current info/data.

Wait, but that post is from 2006!

I have shot WWB in both 50 and 100 round Value Packs the past 6 months in several pistol calibers and I think we need some verification (pulling ammunition apart / chrono check) to make any definitive statements.

If I remember, I do believe the boxes all said "Made in USA" ...

OK, found the pictures of 100 rd Value Pack clearly marked "Made in USA". BTW, shot great out of my new Sig 1911. :D

The "9mm" 50rd box is on the WIN site and says Made in USA too.

On another forum (and THR I think) I've heard more than several complaints lately that the 9mm WINS won't operate well in their pistols. The 50 rd box always worked fine in mine (CZ) before I started reloading.

I got to thinkling about it, and wanted to find out 'why' the Value Packs were so much cheaper. I thought 'they' might be the culprit folks were complaining about..

There was a distinct difference between the 9 mm Q4172 50 round boxes, and the 9 mm 100 round boxes. The obvious visual difference was the bullets, which were brass colored in the 100 round value box. Q4172 used standard win 115 hollow base bullets, likely the reason they were noticably more accurate. My understanding the manufacturers change alot. It also wasn't unusual to see some of the Q4172 brass marked wcc and have crimped primers. However the observation again is based on the past, when 9mm was cheaper for me to just buy than reload. Bought alot of Q4172 over the years at about $6/50.

Have never noticed an obvious difference between the 45 acp rounds in the 50 round and 100 round boxes. Have used a fair amount of 45 acp in the 100 round boxes, when it was cheaper.

bds, I'm talking 9mm

There have been posts that said "9mm WWB" is "crap". The 50 rd WWB is definitely not "crap". I firmly believe any pistol that won't cycle it has a problem. My suspicion is the WWB they were/are talking about is the 100 rd Value Pack ammo. I haven't been able to find any published info about the Value Pack ammo.

If the 100 rd value pack box doesn't say "Made in USA" it might be an issue.

I guess I need to make a trip to Wally and check on those 9mm WWB! :D

I don't know about any differences but

I've fired over 20 boxes of the Winchester WB 100 round value packs in 9 millimeter and have never had a failure to fire or eject and they were always reasonably accurate in all of my pistols. Granted all of mine say made in USA, so, if they are now being made in some foreign country this may have changed, since I started reloading my empty cases.

Went to local Walmart and verified that both 50 and 100 round Winchester white boxes clearly indicated the same "Made in USA" in bold red markings.

Yeah...they keep costs low with the packaging, or lack thereof and probably make money on the value packs. I use WWB and it performs better than the other 115 gr fodder out there for a comparable price.

Just checked the 100-round value pack in my ammo stash...it says "Made in USA." Bought it to shoot in my new (old) Hi Power but haven't fired any yet.

I just shot a Personal Protection I&II class with the WWB 100rd value pack(s). No complaints.

It is highly unlikely that Olin would set up two different production lines with two different sets of specifications and two different sets of components for a bargain line of ammunition.
