I might be buying a Winchester 1200 here soon and I know that its only setup for 2-3/4 shells. I might also be buying a Defender 1300 18in barrel for this gun.

Now since the 1300 series barrels can handle 3in, would it be safe to use 3in shells on a 1200 receiver? I originally thought the receivers for the 1200/1300 were the same aluminum rotary bolt design.

I know the best thing to do is just buy a shotgun already with this setup. But I'm currently putting together a Winchester collection and want to do it this way rather than buy a Mossberg, or a Remington, etc.....

Just wanted to know if it would be safe?

Thanks

From a pressure standpoint, it would be safe.

But I think you would have a single-shot shotgun.

I doubt the 3" shells will feed or eject through the 2 3/4" receiver & ejection port on the 1200.

If you want a 3" gun, it would be best to get a 1300 right up front.
