This might be a dumb question. I just bought a Winchester 70 Sporter (walnut and blue steel) in 30-06.

Is it best to go with a gloss scope or a matte scope? I know the matte will reflect a little less than the gloss. But, on a blued gun, will it really matter?

Any preferences?

Is the blueing on the rifle matte or hi-gloss?
My preference would be matte, especially on a hunting rifle.

Back when I put my '06 package together, there was no choice: Glossy gun, glossy scope. As near as I can tell, it never made any difference. Walking, I was a moving object. Sitting, I'd just hold the gun low or out of the sun.

Overall, with a choice, I'd go matte, mostly on account of my favorite officer, General Principles. :)

I like for my rings to match the finish on the receiver but prefer a matte finished scope on almost everything.

Personally though, I think the hooplah about glare is greatly exaggerated.
