Winchester 94: 1975 Commanche Commemorative

Hi,

A local gunstore is carrying a Winchester 94 Carbine in 30-30.
it is a 'Commanche Commemorative' basically NIB.
I've been told that up here in Canada they're not very collectible.
I'm not sure about getting it since 30-30 costs $15/box and .308 only costs about $10/box (Canadian Dollars)

It's got shiny brass receiver (???gold plated???) and a medallion inset in the stock with an Indian on a horse. Cardboard box has a colorful picture of the same Indian on horse in field.

Cost of this gun is cheap...however should I get it to shoot or keep it pristine????
How much would such a gun sell for in the states???

BKP99, current Blue Book lists the 1975 Comanche at $795 in 100% condition. Hope this helps!

I've not messed much with the Winchester 94 commems. Discussions around the gunshows indicates that if they're not pristine, NIB, the value really drops. If the rifle has been handled very much, or fired, its sale price is commonly down around half of the original retail price.

If the price is comparable to "standard" 94s, buy it as a shooter.

Everything Art Eatman said and then some. If it isn't exactly the way it left the factory (including the poster that came with it) for any reason, it's just a pretty shooter. FYI, 11,500 were made in Cobourg, Ontario and orignal retail was 229.95
