Two questions.

My grandfather had a scope put on my 30-30 when I was a kid. About 15-18 years ago. The gun was new. It is a Win mod. 94 AE. Why did he mount a side mount scope base on it? Was the angle eject a new model about that time (1982 - 1986)? I'm not sure when I got it. Will it work with scope bases directly over the ejection port? It is tapped for them.

He said he couldn't get it to sight in properly. I don't know why. I wonder if it is easier to sight in a scope mounted in the traditional position - directly over the receiver.

My other question is about the stock. The front part of the stock is a little loose. I don't know if the wood shrunk or what. Also, the butt stock is cracked right next to the tang of the receiver, and the wood doesn't fit very well to the metal overall. Where can I get a replacement stock in either wood or synthetic? I'd prefer to replace it with a synthetic stock, however.

Will any 94 AE scope bases and stock replacements fit this gun, or are parts specific to the year of manufacture and/or caliber? I'm no gunsmith.

Thanks for your help. I guess there are more than two questions in there afterall.

I looked around a little. What are the differences between the 94 AE up to serial number 6,000,000 and the the 94 AE above SN 6,000,000?

Thanks,
Marco

Nobody has any input? I really would like to know.

My 94 AE is SN 5,7xx,xxx. Can anybody tell me what the differences are between the Earlier Angle Eject models (up to 6,000,000) and the later Angle Eject models (after 6,000,000)?

Thanks,
Marco

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the parts inside is what changed.
The last place I saw sythetic stocks was in a Bass Pro book.

I believe 454c is correct, the differences are internal.I bout a lever for mine to replace the large loop and got the wrong one the first time 'round.
I have'nt tried mounting a socpe on mine but can't see why one wouldln't work.As you said they are drilled and tapped for it.
As to offside moutning, that alwasy did seem very strange to me,but it must work to some extent 'cause I seen it done on pre AE models.

Well, I found the synthetic stock I was hoping for. Ram-line makes it for the Win. 94. I got it from Cheaper than Dirt for a good deal. Fits well.

I took off the side scope mount, and found a new problem to deal with. Since the Win. 94 AE was tapped for mounting a scope over the receiver, it was not tapped for side mounting. I seems that the gunsmith my grandfather took the gun to drilled and tapped two side mounting screw holes on the side of the receiver like the old Pre-64 Win. 94's had. I looked on brownells, and the screws are not available. Hopefully the screws I remove from the top of the receiver will fit flush in the side of the receiver to plug up those holes. Is there any source for finding generic screws for guns? Can I just measure the depth I need, the screw head size and thread size and find some screws somewhere?

Thanks for any responses.

Marco
