I've got the chance to get one of these NIB Winchestr 94 Legacy .44mag 24" barrel for $450.00

Is this a good deal. How do they shoot? Anyone with personal experience with them?

I have a long barrelled Winchester 94 in 44 mag though I can't be sure if it is the Legacy model or not. It shoots good for me. I have not shot it a great deal though since I don't reload and other rifles have taken priority. Beautiful gun, wish I could tell you more about accuracy and such.

I am thinking that I paid about that same price though this was a few years ago. It was kind of an impulse buy. I thought I was going to get a companion .44 mag revolver, but have never pulled the trigger on that purchase. The rifle holds 12 rounds in the tube. :)

My Dad has a shorter barreled Marlin that I like a lot. I have been considering selling mine and getting a short barreled Winchester or Marlin. They are handier and I think no less accurate at the ranges I would use them. I have shorter Rossi .357 mag levergun that I like a great deal. Having the same gun in .44 mag would be great. That is my preference.

Yeah, if it's holding 12 in the tube it's more than likely a 24" barrel like the Legacy. I sure wish you had some more info on the accuracy and handling.

And yes, they are beautiful.

Not to highjack your thread, but I am also intrested in this particular model. It looks like a real beauty. I've tried purchasing it a few times at my local gunshop but they'll always told me that they're 3-4 months out before they could get it from their supplier. I've done some searching on forums and haven't heard too many people with actual experiece with this particular model...

model 94 Legacy

I have the Legacy 24" in 30-30. It has been a very acurate rifle. Sorry, no experience with the 44 mag.

Mr Rev,

Still interested in one?

This one is NIB w/ all papers. $450 shipped. Let me know ASAP.

Since I turned it down he may sell it immediately.

What is the point of having a rifle in a pistol caliber with a barrel that long? The powder is burned way before the muzzle. Seems to me speed and energy would be lost due to friction. At the very least, accuracy is not increased so why the extra weight and decreased handling?

As far as I know, it is a good shooting rifle. My only complaint is that the length makes it a lot more to handle. I guess was considering keeping it loaded for home defense, but decided the length would get in the way. That is why I mentioned possibly selling it. It only has 50 or so rounds through it. Anyone interested around Houston?

The stock rear sight is pretty wide. It seemed to be pretty accurate and consistent, but I didn't have enough practice with it to use it consistently.

I have collected several rifles over the years that I have not fired as much as I want to. I have been concentrating on shooting my rifles much more in the last year. I am making progress.

A little off topic

:scrutiny: I wonder if anybody knows of a levergun that is built to handle the hot .44 mag loads made by Buffalo Bore et. al.? Winchester, Rossi, Marlin and Henry all make .44 mags but are any of them capable of firing these hot loads comfortably and safely?
Thanks for any advice.

I think one of the benefit is that it is much quieter, especially if you keep it at sub-sonic speed.
