About a year ago I was shooting a .44 magnum Winchester 94 (with the safety through the side of the receiver, not the tang). It messed up and I took it to a local smith for repair. He has been trying to get parts for about a year now, to no avail. I do not know if he is putting me off or really having trouble. Where might these parts be available? Thanks.

I don't know what part is broken, but that sounds like a crock. A lot of gunsmiths will hold off on parts orders until they build up a big enough order to get a discount and justify the shipping costs. That is OK if they are sending in orders weekly, but there is no justification for waiting a year. I suspect he just doesn't care and doesn't think about your part until you bug him, then he says he can't get it or it is on back order, etc.

Go to www.gunpartscorp.com, find the part and order with a credit card.

I do not know exactly what part, but I will find out and order it myself. I kind of thought this, but I also thought that the Winchester not making these anymore could make it true.

Thanks.

After a year , you should get the gun back and try another gunsmith. If the part is not available this year from his supplier what make him or you think it will be next year. If he charges you for storage ask what is the part damaged or broken, if he tells you thank him and pay . If he doesen't know what part is broken or damaged he has just sat on your gun without doing anything, demand your gun back and leave. He may be hoping you will forget about it and he has a gun for parts. Just my thoughts.
