Winchester 94 Timber problem

I recently purchased a Win 94 Timber chambered in 450 Marlin with 18" barrel and factory installed XS ghost ring sights.

When I took it to the range yesterday it shot very high, 9" at 50yds. :banghead:

I have taken all of the elevation out of the rear sight. I think that the only thing I can do now is either raise the front sight with a little JB weld or put the lower sight on a mill and shave off some of the underside to lower the rear sight.

I have already purchased a 1x-4x shotgun scope to put on it for now but I want to fix this problem in the long run.
I think that I am going to call XS tomorrow and see if they can help me out. I was just wondering if anyone has come across this problem in the past.

XS make front sights of different heights. Sounds like you need to swap your existing front sight for a higher one.

I looked at XS website in the FAQ's section and found the answer to the problem. I was centering the tip of the front sight in the ghost ring rather than centering the whole of the front sight in the GR. I'll take it out later and see if this works. Else I'll probably just go for a taller front sight. Thanks.

Just out of curiosity, how is the recoil on this little brute?

suprisingly, not as bad as I thought. I bought it used, the first owner fired 5 rounds and said that it was too much. I took it to the range and put 12 rounds through it. It's like shooting a light slug gun. It isn't something that I would want to shoot 30 rds through in a day. But I figure after the sighting in process (Max 20rds). I'll probably fire it no more than 4-5 rounds a year, 2 to confirm zero and two at animals. I can handle that.
My one word of warning, when shooting off a bench/sandbags do not lean into the rifle (it increased felt recoil by about 25%, I think)
