Winchester made a nice looking model 94 in .410 with a smoothbore.

I found one in unfired condition but I'm not sure it should be an anti-snake tool for the ranch or be put away in the safe as a collector's item. Are these a useful tool or an odd curiosity?

Edited: Dang it I think this should go in the shotgun forum instead. Maybe a mod can move it?

just because it is a shotgun and does not meet what every one else has does not make it a curiosity, should be a lot of fun. Browning designed this type and looks to be a variant of the Winchester 1887/1901 look up his patent 336,287

They were eagerly sought after when they hit the shelves around 2002.

People were a tad disappointed that they weren't chambered for 3" shells. That disappointment changed to frustration and anger when an unwise few found out you can stuff 3" shells into the magazine, but they will cause a marvelous jam when you attempt to chamber them. In the end, the 9410 was like the 9mm revolver; they were too expensive, with too small a target market. They were discontinued around 2006.

They do cause strange glances at the trap range though. :)

Say what?

It's a post-64 94 Winchester, drilled out to shoot .410's.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to increase in value.

Cabala's and a lot of other places still have them, and they still have them on sale every so often trying to move them out.

They are selling NIB for around $550 - $700 bucks in the auction sites like Auctionarms.com.

Without the box & paperwork, I would shoot snakes with it.

+1 on what Rc said.

I have one, well used. The one thing that is somewhat of a pain is that .410 is a somewhat dirty round. Takes time to clean it out right. A new in the box one may increase a lil in a few years, but it will not be like a typical Winney value increase. I did find that the aluminum and steel shells from Russia Mfgs work better than plastic shells. They also made a 9410TD (Take Down), now that one I have really used alot backpacking, boating and camping. Sadly the TD version in the box, they are topping $1200 now. I bought mine when they came out at $470 but it is well used and would not get much of a premium price since it is shot.

The owner manual also states DO NOT SHOOT Slugs out of it, buck shot is ok, just no slugs. I am sure this is due to choke.

They do make a decent snake gun, but there are other .410s out there at a lower price and better suited like the pistol gripped Mossberg pump etc.
