Winchester 97 in the Philippines

    The Winchester 97 was (I'm guessing) used to some extent during the Moro Uprising in the Philippines in the early 1900's.

    Are there any surviving accounts of it's effectivess (or lack thereof) against the Moros?

    from the books that I have read this is what I have inferred: 1897 winchester + 12 guage 00 Buck = yes, Military DA revolver + 38 = no!

    i find myself suddenly curious as to the velocities acchieved with standard issue ammo of the era.

    Velocities should have been fairly standard with Dram Equivalance of about 3 to 3 1/4 Drams. About 1150-1250fps on standard loads. Just like it is today. Possibly more with buck and slugs.
