Winchester 97 slam fire = fun 7 shells in 3.5 seconds

Way too sloooow. Practice more. When I did that at the Scottsdale Gun Club the R.O. moved toward me like he was going to throw me off the range until he saw my target and agreed I had the shotgun under control. It was really kind of silly of him since SGC rents full-autos that people frequently burn-off an entire 30 round clip with just one trigger pull. Win 97's are, if not the coolest, certainly in the running for coolest shotgun ever made.

How did the stock get cut so hideously short?

For a big guy.
Lucky you don't get the bolt in the eye occasionally.

NICE! The only thing better than a Winchester model 97 is a Winchester model 12, because the action is much more resistant to dirt and dust. I have one and it is awesome, slam fires are a real hoot with 000 buck.

I have to agree they are the coolest gun around.

I have a model 12 with a 20 inch barrel. Its a more solid feeling and smoother gun albeit a little less cool.

This gun was a rescue it was butchered by someone trying to get it ready for cowboy action. The mag was a mess and the front and rear furniture were mangled. I have a new but stock but it need lots of fitting so I will leave like this and maybe do it over the winter.

000 buck are fun I made some with 8 pellets. I've made .385 cal ball 0000 and its cool because the heavy ball still kicks up dirt at 50 yards with enough pattern to be useful.

Not really a slam fire, it just goes off if you have the trigger held back since there's no trigger disconnect. A slam fire would be dropping the hammer when the trigger isn't being held. You can do the same thing with a model 12 without the potential hammer bite from the 97.

That is fun. A friend's Ithaca wil do that...Whoot!...and you don't have to move your thumb.

Just curious, is there anything illegal about this? Obviously if THR is leaving it up, and you're posting your face on YouTube, I could logically assume that it is legal. But you never know.
I was under the assumption that the law was 1 round for 1 pull of the trigger.
Is there an exception for shotguns or something that I am missing?
Thanks!

Not sure there are ANY laws on how you operate a gun to shoot it (besides modifying). Maybe in Californy....:neener:

Its cool in Canada to do because the action is manual. It might be illegal to watch in California because someone was having fun :neener:

This is a traditional slam fire I believe the term was used for the trench guns in ww1 so it predates our use of the term for semi's that "go nuts". At least that's my understanding of the history of the term.

Have fun at the range.

my french 49/56 semi auto 7.5x55 rifle would some times do a true slam fire with certain primers with out the trigger being pulled or held back. when chambering the round the firing pin would fly forward and cause the shell to fire some times, a new light weight firing pin stopped the slam fire problem. all semi auto firearms can slam fire with a high primer or senitive primer. eastbank.

Yes it must be fun, if one avoids being cut with the bolt.

I enjoyed the Ithica 37 DS riot a friend had in this manner as well.

Senseless waste of ammo.....and so much fun you want to hoot while you shoot.

Mine too. I have a 7.62x51 conversion (that works). Without using a light weight firing pin you are just asking for an ND using commercial .308.
