Hi All
I was at the local Gun shop the other day and they had a couple of pounds of Win AutoComp. Seeing as I haven't seen any 231 in a while and it don't look like it will be around anytime soon.

Will AutoComp work in loading 9mm, 40S&W and 45Acp? I would be using RMR Flash coated bullets for the most part. Just looking for something to load up some range ammo.

Thanks
WB

It works very well in the higher end of it's loading spectrum. If you load it with low doses it will burn dirty. It was designed for compensated race guns but in a pinch it will work fine.

good luck finding 231.

Having reloaded from 380 Auto to 45 Auto with Autocomp, it has worked out well. As tightgroup tiger said, it seems cleaner at the high end of the load data.

I assume you bought it, yes? I don't think you will be disappointed with it.

I have been using Autocomp in my 9mm with 115g Missouri lead round nose bullets. It is accurate and I have almost no leading at the higher end of the load data. Have not tried it in 45ACP yet.

I would say those calibers are right in AutoComps wheelhouse. Im a pretty big fan and have used lots of it in 9mm.

I bought some Autocomp when I could not get my usual favourite powders in 9mmx19. Worked up a load for the 125g HAP projectile, seems fine. I'm on medical hiatus from the range at the moment, so I didn't get a chance to shoot much of it. Good load density, normal working pressure signs.

From the introduction into the market place I've used Auto-Comp for the 9mm-Luger. I do a lot more shooting with the 9mm-Luger than I use to and at this time employ W231 or Unique for the 45ACP. I don't have a powder supply problem with either W231 or Unique. Auto-Comp appears to be the better choice in my application for the 9mm-Luger.

AutoComp was specifically designed for short cased semi-auto cartridges namely the 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 Auto, the same cartridges you're asking about. All 3 will load just fine with AutoComp. BTW, they names it AutoComp as in semi-Auto rounds in a Compensated pistol.

I also turned to AutoComp now that WW 231 is not to be found.

I use 6.9 grains of AutoComp with a 200 grain plated bullet in .45 Auto Rim brass. I also like AutoComp in .380 loads. I haven't tried it in 9mm or .45 ACP yet.

AutoComp is just fine in all those calibers and more. It doesn't bother me one bit that none of my pistols are compensated, anymore than it should bother you if you load 45ACP and/or other pistol calibers with a "shotgun" power. They can name and market it any way they want. It's still a good general purpose pistol powder. But it's a tad on the slow end for 45ACP. It may not burn clean or be accurate with power puff loads, particularly with light bullets. So it probably won't be good for minimum-recoil plinking/competition ammo in 45ACP.

I have loaded Autocomp in 9mm and 40S&W and it does it's job. The only issue I see is that you use a lot of powder if you are looking at the cost. For 9mm I am loading 5.4gr and for 40S&W I am loading 6.3gr. Using other powders like Unique, Bullseye and even 700-X I use 1gr or more less powder per load than AutoComp.

I will use AutoComp again if I can find it, but lately I have been buying other powders since AutoComp isn't readily available.
