Winchester Defender 1300

Hello,
I have a Winchester Defender 1300 shotgun. Since Winchester no longer manufactures these guns, I would like to keep a few spare parts on hand for it. Would you let me know what parts you would recommend to keep on hand for it? Thank you.

i thought about doing the same thing,ive got an older winchester 1200 riot and im gonna order a spare ejector,maybe a whole bolt havn"t decided,quite a few parts on gunbroker,also maybe numrich or brownells.but i havnt needed anything in 2 years and it was well worn in when i got it,smooth gun.
 
My 1300 defender is 22 years old, not much use until 4 years ago, now it’s my 3-gun shotgun. I would guess I have shot at least 500 rounds of bulk pack #8 shot (federal, REM, WIN) and maybe 50 slugs (REM sluggers) with no breakage or noticeable internal parts wear.

Not sure what I would buy for spares unless you intent to shoot it ALOT.
 
This is a great question. I usually try to have two of anything in the event one goes down, the other is ready. Then if the second one goes down well at that point it's time to canabalize the "weakest" one to keep the better going.
 
The only problem with the 'two of' approach is that whatever breaks/wears out on a given make/model is likely to take down both examples, over time. Knowing what breaks most often on a given make/model and having spare parts/tools/knowledge to fix it is more likely to be a better approach IMHO.

That and having at least two of them in the safe to start with, of course :D. After all, it's more efficient to buy parts and tools for guns you have more than one of...

I have Model 1200/1300s here, plus a Sears/Ted Williams branded example, plus one of the short-lived FN Police pumps that is a 1300 clone. I have a couple of spare feed throats, an ejector or two, an action bar assembly for one of them, I don't know which (assuming they won't interchange), a couple of magazine caps, a mag follower and generic magazine springs, and some other odds and ends of small parts from various 'odd lot' parts buys over the years. If I run across a bolt assembly and a trigger plate assembly at a good price, I'll add them to the Win box.

Wow, this never occurred to me, I came very close to buying a defender 5 years ago but settled on the Mossberg. I thought only Winchester rifles were dropped, never realized shotguns to.
 
Hey Lee Lapin what you say makes sense. In fact I've copied your list of spare parts you keep on hand and plan to gather as many of those for my SG's.

The 'go to' shotgun here is an 870. I can and have built complete guns out of the parts box on stripped receivers (that means only the receiver, magazine tube, ejector and shell stops in place).

Brownell's offers a complete armorer's tool kit for 870s- I ran across one at less than half price on eBay once upon a time, and snagged it to go with my other tools. I am always on the lookout for 'parts guns' or batches of spare parts, and I get whatever I can find to add to the parts box as long as they're at a good price.

I just got several 18" smoothbore 870 barrels with rifle sights and the Marine Magnum finish for $59 each on closeout, for example- and barely missed out on getting 18" rifled barrels with rifle sights at the same price. Want to guess how much I care about finish not matching on a working shotgun? :D I've gotten several nice green laminated 870 stock sets in 12 and 20 gauge with action bar assemblies for $38 each lately ($19 for the fore-end w/action bar assy, and $19 for the stock).

Amazing what you find when you're looking...

Winchester continues to stock every part needed, even for guns long since out of production. It is a little old fashioned, you will need to download the catalog, fill out a parts request form & fax it in. I have several Winchesters long since out of production, including a well used defender, and I really have no concern over finding parts when needed for such mass-produced products. Where their is a need, their is a seller.
 
while were on winchesters,i dug up a old file way back in the computer,u.s army tacom r1 armamemant and small arms comodity business unit.medium machine gun team-amsta-lc-wsim late 70"s supporting two models of shotguns the mossberg 590 and the winchester 1200 for guard duty,prison supervision,riot control,just thought it was intreresting to anyone.now ive found a lot of information on 1200"s and 1300"s and pictures in vietnam,kosovo,and desert storm.ive seen ithica,remington 870,mossbergs,winchesters,in gi"s hands,"cool.
 
All this information is great to know. I have a 20 year old 1300 and just picked up a 1300 Defender.

Wow--I just tried this link & it redirects to individual sellers that I assume have a selection of the needed parts. The order form I used not 4 months ago is now gone. Depressing----Sorry for the mis-directed information. Lee has the best idea---
