Winchester lp primers

I have 2,000 Winchester large pistol primers and was told at the gun shop that they will work with magnum loads. Is this true with the H110? I'm also loading with Titegroup.

WLP will work with H110. Win. only makes the 1 large pistol primer. As does Rem. , the last time i looked.

The Winchester Large Pistol primers that I have say clearly on the carton they are for use in standard or magnum loads. Check your packaging for confirmation and be safe.

Yep, they say it on the box and I have used Winchesters with H110 in heavy .45 Colt "Ruger Only" loads and have had no issues with full combustion. Works great.

I don't like the H110 much because of the tiny load window. It shot fine, but it made me nervous. I traded 2/3 of the can to a cousin who loads a lot of .357.

Hot loads are strictly 2400 now.

Dont use them in rp brass... or at all. If you do, please post pictures of the pits in your recoil plate. They ignite magnum loads of h110 just fine, but they dont hold up under pressure.

Yeah, hasn't happened to any of my guns in the many thousands of rounds I've loaded with them.

That is literally the first I've ever heard of that.
I too have shot several thousand Winchester primers. I don't even pay any attention to what brass I'm sticking them in. There's a good mixture of Rem, Win, Hornady and Starline in my .45 bucket and never an issue with any of them.

All my Rem brass is pulled from my normal rotation. For the reason mentioned. The primer pockets on the RP 45acp brass has a larger bevel. This has caused some primers to pierce. I've seen this happen also when someone gets carried away beveling the pockets too much. What happen is the primer has too much room to flow which causes it to pierce. This is with the brass colored Win primers. If you happen to have some old stock that is Ni plated it does not have the problem. I normally will use CCI or RP primers for the Rem brass to play it safe.


This did happen to a brand new custom BE gun I built. I ended up replace the whole upper assembly to get the fit I needed. btw, Olin paid for the rebuild.
