Good evening Gentlemen;
I have a question for the group: I just purchased a Winchester Model 94 in .30-.30 on gunbroker for $600. It was manufactured in 1954 and is in excellent condition. Was this a good deal or did I get ripped off? I really wanted a pre-64 94 so am not too worried, just wondering what the groups opinion is.
Thanks in advance.

Decent price on a pre 64. I have a 1953 model and it has held up well in the 18 years I have owned it.
I have seen the pre 64's go from the low of $450 to the high of $750. Yours will onlygo up in value if taken care of.
How bout posting some pics of it.

Wincherster Pre 64

Gentlemen,
Thanks for the responses. I haven't received the rifle yet, still need to pay for it as I just won the auction Tues. morning. I will most definietly post some pictures. I will see if I can grab the ones from the auction. The gun is in excellent condition from what I can see. And I guess using the term "ripped" off was not right, as I felt the gun was worth the price for what it is and when it was manufactured. It would be really cool to be able to find out a little about the previous owners, and how many hands it has passed through over the years. Thanks again for the input and I will try to grab some pictures, and hopefully I can figure out how to post them.:)

@ccsniper: Winchester changed their production processes in 63/64 to stay profitable and to provide a firearm that the public could afford. Pre 64 rifles used forged receivers instead of the later stamped steel receivers. The fit and finish of post 64's is not as good as the pre 64's., as the pre 64's involved extensive hand fitting and assembly. Just pick up a Pre 64 and work the butter smooth action.

I paid $325 for a '53 with all the blueing gone on the receiver and about 60% on the barrel. I sold it thankfully. The gun worked well and shot well, but I'd rather find a better specimen for the price.

If that is what you wanted, and that was the price on a public auction, then be happy with your purchase.
