Anyone have a schematic for a Winchester Model 12 shotgun. Have the darn thing apart after cleaning and having trouble getting it completely back together correctly. Specifically, can't get the cylinder that contains the plug completly seated and lock in position. Also, cannot get the plug out to clean that area. Can see what pin needs to be unlocked, but just can't make it open. 806228 is serial number in case that helps to establish the year if that is neccessary to obtain assembly help.

Any and all assistance will be appreciated.

John

To remove the plug and spring, push the pin in the mag tube end cap out of the cap, remove the 2 screws holding the endcap in and it'll pop right out.
To reinstall the mag tube to the reciever, the interrupted threads have to be positioned so they'll go back in, look in the reciever and you'll see how the tube has to be oriented...then just push it in til seated, use the pin in the endcap to twist the cap ~180 and the threads are interlocked.

Thanks Richbaker & hksw!

Was able to get the gun back together yesteday....

Hi all,

New owner of Shotgun here, though it is an old Winchester Model 12.
ATAShooter - Really appreciate your take down and reassemble pics.

Do you have any other pages of guide(s) on this model, for a newbie to shotguns?

The gun I have just gotten from my young son-in-law's father probably hasn't been fired in over 40 years, though it looks pretty good from the outside.
The barrel needs some cleaning and the grease on the action slide cocking rails looks really dried up, and also in the receiver, and on the outside of the magazine tube. Looks like some rust on the action slide - how do I get it off without scratching the slide?

Is there anything special to taking these pieces apart for cleaning and do you have any recommendations as far as type of cleaning solution to use?

I just purchased an aerosol can of Break Free Powder Blast and a cleaning kit with rods, brass brushes, patches etc. But is has been over 30 years since I had to clean a rifle and things are a little fuzzy for me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

PS: Do I need special set of screwdrivers to fit the screws on this shotgun?
