Recently invested in this beautiful piece. A Winchester Model 1876. Have not accurately aged this rifle yet. Chambered in .40-60, It has some decorative tack work done to the stock and I came to ask for help in identifying the possible origin.

The finish has a original Winchester reddish stain on it and the slight shrinkage at the heel butt plate area suggests the stock has never been refinished.
Beautiful gun, however the tacks subtract from it's value.
[Edit: the more I look at the pics, thats a beautiful example of early Winchester stock finsh-or a hell of a good copy- and someone put tacks in it:banghead:

Yes, I would like to see the metal also. That wood sure doesn't look like something dragged around a rough Indian camp.
