Winchester Model 1894....The forgotten US military rifle?

Was the Winchester Model 1894 lever gun a forgotten US Military rifle? Found this, thought it was interesting. "The U.S. Army purchased 1,800 Model 1894 carbines on December 29, 1917 to help guard strategic defense industries in the Pacific Northwest". http://www.winchestercollector.org/guns/1894.shtml

Also in wikipedia under "service history" they list the Winchester Model 1894 in the Spanish-American war. Was the Model 1894 used in this war and if so by who? The US or another country?

The only military marked and issued 94's I'm aware of were used to guard Sitka Spruce trees they needed to build airplanes out of.

To my knowledge, none were ever issued or used in the Spanish American war, because the 94 or the 30-30 cartridge, was never an official military weapon, or caliber.

The Winchester 1895 was used in that war however.
The United States Government ordered 10,000 1995 muskets in caliber 30/40 Krag for use by US troops.

I'd have to say that once again, WikiLie is just plain wrong.

The US didn't issue them but if I was fighting back then and could get one you bet I would try to use it instead.

And in 1915 the Russian government ordered 300,000 M1895s in 7.62x54. Bayonet lug and all.
