Hi guys I want a nice little Winchester pump action. The pocket only allows for 1.

What are the pros and cons of a 1906 vs a 270?

Which one should I buy. I can't find much about the model 270 apart from in was made from 1963 for 10 years.

The 1906 looks traditional, with an external hammer and would be easy to take apart for cleaning. I think it would also be easier to get parts for.

The 270 however is in good condition and looks good. Parts might be a bit more hassle, though Numrich stock most.

Well I am not sure I am also considering a model 61 or 62! The 61 looks like a transition between the 1906 and the 270.

Is it possible to put a tang sight on the 61 or 270 without damaging the rifle? I like tang or receiver sights!

Get an 06 or 62A if you can find one with a good bore.
They are a joy to handle & shoot.

The Model 61 has no relationship to the 270.
The Model 61 is the crown jewel of of Pre-64 Winchester line of .22 pumps.
It very much resembles a scaled down Model 12 Shotgun.
They are made like a fine watch, slick as snot to operate, and just all around one of the finest .22 pumps ever made.

The 270 was a cheap gun introduced in 1963, and only made for 10 years.
Designed to be cheaply made, it certainly was!
