I have a 1952 Model 61 in excellent condition.
It has the round barrel and no exposed hammer.
To my less trained eyes, I would be willing to say that it has never been fired (muzzle is in excellent condition and the barrel looks brand new on the inside).
The stamping is excellent, one of the serial numbers (yes they match) is a little weak, but legible.

This gun belonged to a guy I really respected/loved as a friend and he passed very unexpectedly during a surgery that went very, very wrong. His widow is out of sorts right now (duh!) and I was asked to remove the 'weapons' (argh! I hate when not-gun people call 22s and 12 ga 'weapons'! (The 12 ga is a nock off Stevens 'Fox' worth $200 made in 1950.) In the 5-6 years I knew Mike he never said he owned a gun even though he had heard Rob and I talking guns many times...

So, if asked, I want to offer somewhat of a fair price. I certainly won't give them back to his widow in the condition she is in: but this is a good friend of mine, I also want to treat his wife and girls right. Which we are by the way: my wife and her best friend are doing a lot for them...

Thanks for your thoughts: the gun is beautiful, and because it belonged to Mike, I would never sell it if it did become 'mine'.

In my older edition of Fjestad's Blue Book, a high-grade 61 is a minimum of $400 to $500, retail. If an octagon barrel, triple that.

I suggest browsing the online firearms auction sites for better info on current pricing.

Get a current book of gun values and do some digging. My older copy of Winchester values is too old to do you any good.

Don't let it go for less than it's worth! I have a pristine 1933 61 w/octagonal barrel and depending on the reference, it varies from $2,000 to somewhere around $4,000.

If you search around on the web, there are some guys specializing in Model 61s and that's a good way to find current sale prices as well.

Just for everyone else... here's what a pretty nice 61 looks like... if there's a way for you to keep that 61, you should do so. They're great shooters. If yours is in as good a shape as it sounds, it will be worth something for sure.

Roger: oh yes, this is a pretty gun. It has a little mark on either side of the receiver, so it isn't 100%. But it comes from a very good friend: I don't ever intend to let it go...unless I'm asked to give it back to family. At which point, I'll ask the girls and offer them something fair. Good idea: I'll give you all a pick. Yours is very pretty.

My uncle gave me this one a few weeks back - its in .22 magnum. Haven't fired it yet though.

Looks real nice.

All I can tell you is what I said in post #6.

Thats what they are going for around here, and on the national auctions.
