How much would the value drop on a Pre 64 Model 70 if the barrel was ported and reblued? Its a 375 H & H. The rifle is not mine but looking at possibly getting it. I havent seen it pics of yet just was told the rifle is available.

It is now a good stout hunting rifle. "Pre-64" doesn't mean much after major alterations.
Find a factory barrel and pay to have it put on? Riiight.

Not all pre-64's are the same. Anything made after WW-2 has far less value than pre-war rifles. Different grades and chamberings are worth more or less depending.

If it is a post WW-2 rifle it is really just a shooter with only slight collector interest and that is primarily because of the chambering. Porting won't really hurt the value as much, because it isn't worth as much to begin with. If someone did this to a pre-war rifle they really reduced the value.

Either way, unless it is significantly less than a new rifle I'd seriously consider just buying a new one.

A new one is $1,078 from Buds. Used, $850 or less with holes in the barrel .

Since they don't make new pre 64 model 70's, I don't think it can be compared with the price of a current production one. What they have done is take all the collector value away from it. Now it is just a hunting rifle.

Depending on it's current condition and the grade of the original gun, I would expect it to be in the $600~800 range. Add a few dollars for the value of the (used) optics if it has any.

If it was a Super grade rifle that was defaced, It is probably worth at the higher end of the price range. If you were to be lucky enough to find an original barrel in .375 H&H magnum (they are somewhat rare), I would bet that it will cost a pretty penny to acquire it and then, of course there is the cost of installing it and headspacing it to the bolt/receiver.

While there are more modern guns on the market, few, if any, have the cachet of a Pre 64 Winchester . I have a 1957 Featherweight and I will never get rid of it.

Its for a trade on my Saiga 308, with ammo, mags, brass, and dies. The saiga has POSP scope, Rail Dust cover, billet quad rail, converted to PG, and muzzle brake. Good idea?
