Just as the title states the finger lever on my post 64 winchester ranger won't lock up to disengage the trigger stop. The locking block is locking up and so is the link plate but the finger lever is loose enough to drop approx a quarter of an inch. I inspected the cross pin and lever pin for wear but they were good. Could the finger lever pivot slot possibly be worn enough to create this problem?

See what you did...You made me open my safe and break out my ol' 30-30 (1949). The pin that deactivates the trigger block operates the same as a grip safety on a Colt .45 ACP in that you must [gently] squeeze the lever to disengage the trigger block. The lever on mine is forced to drop just enough to lock the trigger. Maybe an eighth of an inch. The lever is still in contact with the pin.

Check to make sure that the spring loaded latch (friction stud) on the lever link plate is still there, not stuck in or has a broken spring.

That's the best I can offer.

Bushmaster is correct. Your safety works fine. The lever is normally held up against the stock when firing, thus pushing the lever lock pin in.

Thanks for the help. I checked the detent spring and pin on the lever link and they were fine. My other rifle .35 Marlin is very different and that threw me off.
