As I'm working on my first load this question has come up. I have Winchester (Large Pistol) primers. The box says Standard OR Magnum. My reloading manuals say that magnum primers are not appropriate for standard loads, such as the 45 ACP I'm working on. What gives with these? Are they magnum primers and unsafe to use in a normal load?

I use Win large pistol primers in .45 Colt, 44 Magnum and .45 ACP. Work just fine for me in light or heavy loads.

+1 for .45 acp and .45 LC. (by the 1000's)

I tried them though under H110 in .50 S&W and that was NOT a successful combination . .so . . . .I think they're hotter than standard but not as hot as some magnums. FWIW

Thanks, just wanted to make sure these primers were legit for this type of work.

Not a problem...I use Winchester standard, standard/magnum and magnum primers. They make a neat way to fine tune a load that is close to what I want. As dmftoy1 said...Hotter then standard, but not as hot as magnum primers...:)
