Winchester Primers?

CCI primers seem to be the most recommeded primers. Any opinions on Winchester Small Pistol Primers? How about Winchester Large Pistol Primers?

I've been using Winchester primers for years without any problems. I've used CCI on occasion when I couldn't get Winchesters. I haven't noticed any difference in performance.

Not sure why others prefer CCI over Win, but for me it is primarily due to the size difference. I find recently there is a lot of soft Win and FC brass and by using CCI primers I can get a couple more reloads from this brass. I still use Win primers for brass that I've removed the crimp but other than that, I use CCI primers.

I've mainly used Win primers. They both work just fine for my applications.
I would say it;s a matter of preference. Try them both and see which one you like better.

I use both Winchester and CCI primers. Depends on what is available at the time I need primers.

I also use alot of Reminton 7-1/2.

the recoil plate of my 44mag revolver was permanently damaged by WLP primers. I use cci now.

cci seems bigger too, tighter fit. Is that true in large rifles as well?

ive got a lighter striker spring on my glock 29 from glockworks and it does not like Winchester large pistol primers. Im guessing the winny primers are quite a bit harder than federals (which i like best). They work fine in my glock 21.

I've been using primarily Winchester primers for the last year or so and like them very much. I cannot tell any difference in performance over CCI. I also use Magtech primers which have been very good.

Winchester is one of the better primers available.......i haven't seen or heard to many people criticize them.

• I use winchester for semi-auto pistols
• CCI for revovlers cause they are a little more ridged
• Shotshell use Win or Federal
• Rifle win or cci

Win primers tend to be softer and require less pressure to seat. Especially nice with a hand priming tool or in a progressive press.

I switched to win small pistol for my 380 loads due to Wolf primers being pretty hard for some small 380 guns to hit hard enough.

I too use CCI's unless they are out of stock. But Winchesters have never failed me either. I use CCI's because they seat with a more positive feeling, just me I guess. Both are just as reliable in my opinion. It's more of a personal preference I think.

My former LGS had issues with primer stock when I needed them, so I'm pretty sure I have tried just about all of them at one point or another... None of my loads are weird or hot enough to make much difference... Only issue I ever had was the Wolfs are definitely harder, like a mil-spec primer... Causes issues in some weapons and hard to seat into tight brass(WCC, other formerly crimped brass, etc). I still use them in 9mm plinking loads based on random range brass.

Although they function fine, my problem with Winchester large pistol primers "for standard or magnum loads" is they leave a heavy hard-to-remove layer of carbon/melted varnish at the bottom of the primer pocket. I'm lazy, its much harder to clean these deposits compared to other brands. I mostly use Remington, Magtech, and CCI small and large pistol, standard and magnum primers; and have no problems with any.

Winchester is all I've used for 40yrs. I just bought 6k of them today. I have one box of CCI floating around here somewhere I've never used.
Either one is fine. CCI is a little softer I think, but I crunched some of the Win primers pretty good in my progressives over the years and haven't set one off yet.

With me it's just sticking with something that has always worked well for me. Nothing against "Some" of the other brands.

I've used most brands of primers over the years, usually picking them up on specials. They all have workes so far. In tests over the chrono I've found that Winchester primers produce slightly higher velocities, at least for the .38's where I had 2 batches of the same load, one with CCI and one with Winchester.

Up until the 2008 shortage I used mostly CCI pistol primers because they always work for me. Since 2008 I have been using mostly Winchester LPP because they are rated for both standard and magnum loads which makes things easy in a shortage. They were also available longer and at a lower price when the shortage hit.

I have no problem using CCI or win primers and even Rem when need be. I don't use many Federal primers because they are too soft and the packaging is WAY too large.

Rifle primers are still mostly CCI except for Rem 7 1/2 primers which I started using when I couldn't find CCI #41 primers.

All small pistols I've used (Winchester, Remington, CCI, Russian stuff, Federal) all seem to work the same and are equally reliable. I use Winchester now because that's what was on sale last time at the pro shop.

I use Winchester for everything currently. I've used CCI and Federal also. Never had a problem with any of them so I guess the Winchester choice is just a personal preference.

Here is a post I did testing primers when loading the .25-06. All of these were the same poweder and weight and OAL. The only thing different were the primers. I think it tells a big story on how primers can affect accuracy. I prefer Winchester primers for most of my loadings, but use CCI for some plinking loads.

Some Win. primers have been defective in WLP & Larger Rifle. New plant/employes/learning does not help quality control. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=619406 I use only WLP, no problems so far in the new lot of 5000.

The only primers I use are CCI, Federal, Remington and Winchester. Others may be good too but I haven't tried them.

I use pretty much what I can get with the exception of Federal which I don't buy due to owning mostly Lee equipment. I've never had a problem with CCI, Remington, Winchester and have even used some Wolf as well as other foreign made primers such as PMC etc. Brass is a bit different in that Starline or Winchester seems to be excellent over all to compared to some others.
