Today after completing my Honey Do list, I decided to put in some proficiency training with my Ruger LCP. My Ammunition of choice has been the Lehigh Defense 90gr Xtreme Penetrator and I also have some Precision One 90gr with the Hornady XTP HP. Both ammunitions have run flawlessly for me. Today, as I am low on the Lehigh currently, and getting low on Precision One (both of which I have been ordering online) I picked up some Winchester Train and Defend from my local Sporting Goods store.

Using the 'Defend' cartridges, I had multiple failures to go into battery. Of the five failures that I had, I was able to clear my Ruger and reload the problem cartridge and was able to discharge 4 of them. The 5th cartridge flat out would not go into battery.

I disassembled my gun and manually dropped the cartridge into the chamber and it sat proud in the chamber. I measured the case length and found it to be at .713" which explained my issue.

I have always been a believer in making sure my guns run with the defensive ammunition I intend to carry, and do not use ammunition that my guns do not shoot accurately but I would never have expected Winchester ammunition, marketed as 'Defense' to have such poor quality control that they are shipping it out the door with incorrect dimensions.

Side by side with a Lehigh Defense round:

Nickle plated cases sure are pretty, but I could do without the extra 0.033" too long case length.
Y'all be careful out there!
