I've done a week's worth of research on this round. Locally, I can get it inexpensively. That means I can practice with it. Also, I think the Winchester USA FMJ is a "sister" round to the JHP and should be very similar in feeding and performance. That's another bonus, if I'm correct in that assumption. I'll be shooting this round out of a CZ-75B. According to Stephen A Camp, the Winchester USA 9mm 115 gr. JHP clocks at 1183 fps from the CZ-75. Some people report 14" of penetration in ballistic gelatin, but I can't find proof of that. I believe in drilling deep holes (12" minimum penetration in gelatin as the standard). So, does anyone have any data on the performance of Winchester USA 9mm 115 gr. JHPs?

White Box W/W 9mm

This is interesting news Thank you

There is a popular belief that these white box pistol loads from W/W are from Sellier & Bellot (Czechoslovakia) Their 7.62 x 25 are indeed Czech.

All excellent reloadable cases and fine performers

Where are you finding WWB 115-gr JHP? I find my best prices for ammo at Wal-Mart, but while their FMJ 9mm is 115-gr, the JHP is 147-gr.

Are you saying WWB is actually S&B?
I'd buy S&B if it wasn't for the red sealant. I really hate cleaning that crap that got all over my gun.

My local walmart carries WWB in 115 and 147 gr. Both weights in either FMJ or JHP.

They also carry Remington UMC 115gr. JHP ammo in 100 packs for about the same price as the Winchester stuff. (So far the UMC seems to be a little cleaner that the white box, so that's what I've been using.)

I haven't looked to see if they carry the UMC in any other weight, since I don't care for the 147 gr. ammo.

I don't have any "data" per se, but I have used the Winchester 115-gr JHP for a long time. I like it a lot. In my guns, it shoots to the same POI as the Winchester FMJ of the same weight.

I also like the 100-round Remington JHPs, but mostly for their intense muzzle flash (for photography purposes). :D

Between the two, I like the Winchester better for practical purposes.

However, I don't think either of these compare with the "premium" rounds, like the Speer Gold Dot, Remington Golden Saber, Winchester Ranger T, Hornady XTP, etc.

Just my opinion. ;)

Well, the price of the stuff at my Wallyworld has been variable. I'd been getting it at 5.97 a box, then it went up over 8 for a while and last I looked it was 6 something and I tried a box of Blazer brass at 5.97 just because. I've also used the remington 115 FMJ. I've noticed the Winchester shoots close to POA in my Kel Tec while the Remington and Blazer shoot a bit higher. But, no biggy for range practice and plinking. In the P85, there's less point of impact difference, pretty close to POA, probably because of the heavier gun.

So, I'll buy which ever's cheapest for play. I load my own 115 grain JHP +Ps for carry using a 115 grain JHP Hornady XTP bullet moving out of the Kel Tec at 1260 fps. It's very accurate and shoots dead on. I just can't justify handloading practice ammo when the factory stuff is do danged cheap.

Many of you may strongly disagree with this, but I feel a need to say it (perhaps I should have started a new thread).

I think it would be good for the country if everyone would quit buying anything from WalMart. I know their prices can be attractive, but I think we are hurting ourselves in the long run.

MCgunner,

You are correct, I probably shouldn't have posted that comment here, but it just hit me hard when I was reading this thread. Oh well, back to the gun topics.

Thanks.

A couple days ago I stopped in Academy to see what the 115gr FMJ WWB was selling for, I paid $3.85 a box last year. It was $10.99 a box:eek:
Ammo is steady going up but that's a heck of a jump.
I haven't seen WWB HP.

A few days ago, just for the heck of it, I was shooting wet phone books with, 5.7x28, 45ACP and 9mm.

This is the back of 6 inches of books. S&B 9mm JHP on top and WWB 115gr FMJ on bottom. Looks like the WWB was still moving on.:D
Aguila IQ, CorBon and Win Silvertip were stopped at about 4 inches.

One thing I heard not too long ago, on good authority: that this 115gr HP is the same bullet loaded in the Ranger +P+ 115gr. I carry the Ranger in my PM9. It has a very good history as a manstopper, the one time official load of the Illinois State Police.

that this 115gr HP is the same bullet loaded in the Ranger +P+ 115gr.

This is incorrect. The 115-gr. JHP is the same (or very similar, at least) as the Winchester 115-grain Silvertip.

S&B makes Winchester branded ammo in what Winchester labels their "Metric Calibers." I have their 9mm Makarov (9x18) whose box is marked "Made in Czech Republic" and it does appear to be identical to the S&B rounds in the same caliber, including the cartridge carriers inside the box. No red primer sealant, though. Most Winchester White Box ammo is made in the USA, though, including all the 9mm Luger that I've ever shot.
