Hello folks of THR, I have just bought a winchester xpr in 308 for 330 dollars last weekend and I figured I'd share my thoughts and ask for all of yours. I have used and familiarized myself with almost all of the modern budget bolt actions on the market and i have to say that for the cost they are all quite impressive.

What stands out to me with the xpr is the what i believe is a 90 degree bolt throw and the overall smoothness of it. Straight away I was impressed, the only smoother one in the price range I've found is the Patriot but that also comes with a bit more slop. I also appreciate the trigger being it is bladeless and breaks with extremely little creep. The safety with a bolt release is also a nice and interesting feature in such a budget rifle. I also feel like the stock is a bit more stiff than most of its competition yet the gander in my area cant seem to move them at any price.

The major detraction I will take from the rifle is the stock is not pillar bedded but you have to give up something.

I'm not going to tell you that it is the greatest thing at its price range but it sure gives some variety to the market depending on what is important to you which I am always a fan of.

Do any of you guys have thoughts or experience with this rifle?

I've never owned one, but have been impressed with the ones I've seen and handled. I already have more guns than I need so I've not been able to justify buying one for a 1st hand evaluation. But at $330 I'd have bought it too. I bet it works out well for you.

At first glance something about the proportion, or arrangement of the receiver and bolt reminds me of the old bolt action shotguns

It is so new I have not seen one, and trying to find an exploded view, only found a picture with the bolt out. I don't know if the lugs lock into the receiver, or a barrel extension. For the price, you got a deal. Take it out and shoot it first before thinking you need it pillar bedded, it might shoot very well out of the box.

Got the Legend last week. Trigger is 4¼ lbs -- heavier than I'd like, but very sharp release/ no creep at all)
Rifle is so relatively light that the felt recoil impressed me as significantly higher than my AR Legend.
22" barrel was the seller over the Ruger Ranch/

Bolt design is such that you can fully rotate on a 'sticky" case, and it still leaves thing "stuck" on withdrawal after that.
Can't quite figure that out.

Have got cast/#2 ALOX'd SAECO #352 358-245 running 1900 at about a minute+/minute & a half, and the HNDY 200 FTX (sized to 0.356)
about 1¼ just under 2,100. Went back to Starline brass for this one. (Winchester still for the AR).

Watch brass length. Bolt comes to hard stop/won't rotate at 1.710"

I have been quite happy with my XPR, good price, accurate and I think it's a good looking rifle.

I live in lower Michigan where they just recently changed the deer gun laws for the shotgun zone. I can only use my Winchester model 70 Featherweight .308 and model 94 30-30 up north, but lately I have been having better luck at home on my own property with a shotgun, crossbow and muzzle loader. We can now use certain .35 cal or larger straight wall rounds in a rifle like .357 Mag, .44 Mag, 45 Colt, .460 S&W, .350 Legend, .450 Bushmaster and maybe some others with a case length between 1.16" and 1.80". I used my buddies Ruger American .450 Bushmaster 2 years ago and took a buck with it, I thought I would give the .350 Legend a try. I bought the .350 Legend Winchester XPR to use for deer season on my property in lower Michigan.

The gun was made in Portugal at the Browning Viana factory, this is the Sporter Titanium model and it is not on the Winchester web site for some reason, I was surprised to see it at my local dealer 5 miles down the road. You can also get it with a blued barrel if you prefer. It has a recessed crown and adjustable trigger pull and trigger stop, factory set at 3 1/2 pounds.

There are several variations of the .350 available but I like walnut stocked guns, most are composite plastic. The .350's and .450's are selling like crazy in my area. I got a Leupold 3x9 Freedom scope mounted and got it zeroed in. I'm quite happy with the results, I can get sub 1" groups at my 90 yard range, same as my .308.

That's a good looking rifle

In the most broad approach to all of the replies so far: I so far am still yet to take the rifle out but i hopefully will soon. I am got a sig bdx 2.5-8 for about 100 dollars also at that gander and slapped it on with some low rings and a weaver mount. I think for my logical shooting and hunting range it will serve me great and help me get into 308. This is not my first time trying... As for ammo choice i'll probable feed it american whitetail or federal fusion so long as they shoot well. For practice any sort of 308 will get thrown in their. For those looking at the 350 legend, I just helped a friend build an ar in it and he LOVES the caliber. I would say it is not a stretch of any sort to say the xpr would be a great platform for it.
For reference I'm in my very early 20s and the 350 legend in my crowd is somewhat being looked at as the modern weapons 30-30 to good success.

Well, 300BLK is more the spiritual successor to the 30-30. The 350 Ledgend is more of the heir to the 35Rem in application.

Which is fine, I always preferred the 35Rem anyways. Helluva cartridge.

I don't have any info to add but I have been seriously looking at that rifle in 7mm Rem Mag. I've heard a lot of good things about them including the accuracy. Where did you find one for $330?

My local gander outdoors was clearing them out. Said they couldn’t move them to save their lives. If you could find one in 7mm mag I’m sure it’d be a great rifle so long as it shoots.

Very happy with my .243 xpr. Three of the four factory rounds I tried in it shot sub-MOA out of the box. I chose it over the Weatherby Vanguard because side by side in the shop I honestly couldn't tell the difference between the triggers. Not saying it's as good a gun as the Weatherby. But for the features that matter to me, the xpr was the right choice at a good price.
