My question is recently my AR will not feed Wolf ammo.I have shot hundreds of rounds with no problems. The last batch will only shoot single shot the rounds will not feed. The gun will shoot other ammo like Black Hills without a problem. It is a Bushmaster 20" A3 gun.The gun is clean and the Wolf is not the lacqured type.I was wondering why all of a sudden it is having this problem?I tried different boxes same problem.Has Wolf changed something or is something up with my rifle?
Thanks

could be the rifle, could be the ammo.

i personally wouldnt shoot it in anything i own.

i just cant see having a rifle as nice as your bushy and running such poor ammo through it.

i know that ammo prices are crazy, but you might look into reloading.

once your up and running, you can make 500rds for about 60-70 bux.

you could invest around 120 bux in reloading equipment just to get started.

lee loader press......bout 25 bux
lee die set.............bout 25 bux
lee hand primer.......bout 20 bux
lee powder measure bout 25 bux
lee safety scale......bout 20 bux

not only could you make ammo in large quantities, but custom tune it to be more accurate and clean burning than anything you can buy.

word of warning, once your in, your hooked.

a lee loading press is ony 25 bux?
and the powder measure is ony 25 bux?
I looked at a RCBS powder measure today and it was $89, but then again RCBS doesnt make press on nails so its expected

its just my opinion but I wouldnt shoot wolf in a rented gun. but some people like it and use it with no problems.

no, what he meant to say is they make reloading presses that are tough as nails.

(seriously, no, different lee)

Wolf is usually under powered so your rifle is probably not being cycled fully. Although wolf is dirty, and inconsistent, it makes great blasting ammo. If you gun doesn't shoot it thats one thing, however if it does shoot it keep buying it.

Thanks for input I do reload but have not reloaded the 223 very much because ammo was so cheap. The Wolf in the camaflaged boxes was ok but just started having problems with it.I will relaod it just curious why it just started this not feeding Wolf.I think the under powder charge is probaly the problem as I have noticed that some pistol ammo is the same way. They may have changed to a lighter load to save money.

IMHO, if your rifle won;'t run wolf, you have an issue with your rifle. If you have a match, tight tolerance .223 chamber'd AR, Wolf probably won't work. However, a true 5.56 chamber'd AR should run wolf without an issue.

There is nothing wrong with the ammo and complaints about wolf stem from it being dirty (just clean your rifle like you're suppose to) to lacquered cases (wolf hasn't sold lacquer coated cases in several years) to the steel case (its a very mild steel and won't harm your components) to its smells funny (so what, its ammo, not a hot date).

I hope no one starts the lacquer builds up in the chamber thing.

To anyone who cares to try, do this. Save some fired cases (the lacquer coated ones), get some pliers, heat up the case. My gas stove works great for this. Hold the case with the pliers and hold it in the flame. You will notice that the lacquer doesn't melt off. It doesn't become sticky or tacky, it stays the same. I held it in the flame until the case turned orange, nothing.

Don't bother telling me that your gunsmith said lacquer builds up, or that it is your personal experience. I can't believe it. If the metal starts to glow and the lacquer doesn't melt, it sure as hell won't melt in your gun.

Strange, Bushmaster says Wolf is OK in their guns. I've run over 700 rounds of the steel-cased stuff through my Bushy carbine without any problems (besides the fact that it's dirty).

I ran 100 rounds through my BM when I first got it and it fed fine. that was before I started reloading and found out I could get a perfect round for half the price as a wolf round

if you scrape the case with the edge of a knife will it come off, building up on the edge of the knife at the point of contact?

if so it might not be the heat, but just building up in the chamber from friction.

just a thought, ive never used it.

man I have 1 round of wolf 7.62x39 thats lacquer coated. ill drop it by tomorrow and you can run some scientific studies on it.

Ya, sure that would be fine. Not sure when I implied that I wanted you to have me do it, but sarcasm is great on the internet. It is really easy to understand...

That might be what some people experience, but they always claim that it melted. I have shot a few hundred rounds from an AR and a few hundred in my SKS, and some in my AK it never melts.

I just bought 200 rounds of the evil lacquer coated stuff, it will be here in about 2.5 weeks--I'll let you know how many times it jams in my AR-15. :D

To the OP, since no one else likes wolf and you are having problems with it, want to sell it? If you have a lot left and want to sell it I might buy it.

that was meant for FlyinBryan, he lives right around the corner from me. but I agree about sarcasm

ya, i agree bart, that guy is always doing that

roc1. have you tried winchester white box in it. that stuff is almost as inexpensive as wolf and I think its better quality
