I was thinking about ordering some 223 wolf ammo from cabelas ,what would be the downside to using it . Ive never used wolf ammo is it bad on your gun or does it matter. Ill be shooting it out of my ar 15.

Do a quick search here for about 485 hours of reading concerning Wolf in ARs.

Some people do it, and have no problems. Others have reported jams, broken extractors, ripped off case heads, etc.

I do not shoot Wolf in my AR or M16. Whether you do is your choice.

Seriously, just try it. It's not going to hurt your rifle. If your rifle runs w/ it great, if not... you're one of the very few or one of the trolls :)

Personally, I've ran ~ 5k through my AR, and I've got a buddy that's got 30k through various uppers (he owns a RDIAS), works fine.

As long as it will not mess my rifle up ill try it , I just payed a guy 1100.00 to build it today .

Wow... that's a lot, must have some pretty cool accessories...
However, if it's a match grade gun, you'll be wasting money and your barrel w/ wolf... it's more for plinking.

I think ill just try some winchester then maybe ill buy somewolf for my mini.As far as the price he is supposed to be pretty honest, but its a rocky river with a stainless barrel . He said it would shoot 1 " moa.

i have put over 1000rds of wolf 55 and 62 gr fmj, and hp through a previous ar-15. i needed the money so i sold it and recently bought another ar and will order a few thousand rds next time i find a good deal on it. I have never had an issue out of it, it is dirty but I love to clean my guns anyway so that makes no difference to me. It is really good for CQB drills, alot more practice for the same amount of money. Hey David Fortier uses it, so why not! that is what he tourter tested the M&P ar with. i like it alot and use it in my ak as well and have yet to find a single problem with wolf ammo.

Is your rifle chambered for .223 or is it 5.56/.223? I have heard that .223 only rifles are more sensitive to ammo, but I am not sure what that has to do with Wolf.

I bought a spare bolt assembly for less than the difference in price between Wolf and other ammo.

S&B .223 is out there for a little more money, but less than other stuff.

I have a bushmaster which is .223/ 5.56 i am currently been using m855 ammo,i have also used barnaul ammo which was a little less accurate than the wolf but still ok for cqb drills. For who it may apply if the lower reciever says .223 then i would suggest against using 5.56 in it.

You got taken $300-400...

.223 and 5.56 is exactly the same ammo. m855 is the steel core ammo. I had no problems with wolf ammo in my mini 14 but have not had a chance to try it in my AR.

Not so, though they are the same dimensions, the 5.56 has a higher psi when fired than .223 and is not reccomended in weapons that are not built to handle 5.56. some ar companies are .223 only. yeah you might can shoot in there but I wouldn't, the higher pressures over time could be hard on your weapon especially one not made to handle it! and wolf recently started making brassed cased 5.56 and soon will be comming out with a 75gr tacticle load. The ammo before that was loaded to .223 only. It's not the same if it was then manufacturers would not reccomend against it.

Oh well you got to spend it somewhere but, if you can build me 1"moa rifle send it to be and ill give you 700.00 dollars for it goldshlager:confused:

blackhawk2000,
thanks for that link a little research will show anybody that looks for it that there is a difference between the 2.

If you just spent $1100 on an AR that will "guaranteed" shoot less than 1 MOA...why are you shooting Wolf through it?

I can't think of any other better way to become disappointed with my new baby than run Wolf. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the ammo but it is blasting ammo, not MOA ammo. I run Wolf in my $700 M4-gery but it won't touch my new Hollinger-built DCM AR.

Seems like buying a new BMW then putting kerosene in the gas tank.

Sure that's easy. Get you standard rockriver upper from ar15sales.com, they run $450. RR guarantees all their uppers will shoot 1 moa. Now you get a lower receiver, let's say $120 (you can get them for less). Add a lower parts kit + stock and you've got all your parts($90).
Spend about 1/2 hour reading on how to put the lower together and you're done!!

You'd have $660 in the above setup and it would be capable of shooting 1 moa.

I just looked it up on the net the one he ordered is 1061.00 msrp he probably cant order it hiself for 600.00.Now if it was a standard blued barrel ranch gun Id say you were close , but if you could sell them that cheap youd be in the gun buisness. Maybe you are I dont know

I only shoot Wolf through my bushmaster upper. Once in about every 3k rounds, I will have a round that gets the rim torn off by the extractor. Just run a cleaning rod down the bore, and you're good to go. I have never had a mis-fire, or ANY damage to my rifle.

if it is wolf brass, yes if it is wolf steel cased and laquered, run away! For semi autos, that melting lacquer will give you a cleaning headache, plus may make your weapon fail to operate.

I have never had any of these issues and have not know anyone to have the above mentioned. I suggest that you get the new wave of steel cased wolf that dosen't have the lacquer case, if that is a worry. I still would like to try the brass cased though.
