So i read awhile back that Wolf says this ammo is supposed to hit 1607fps out of a handgun and was quite interested in trying it. So fast forward to yesterday when i see a box at a gun show. I bought it, brought it home and fired it thru my chrony and what did i see....

An average of 1225fps. That doesnt really qualify as "whoa" in fact it barely registers a "hmm". Its accurate and it keeps in the long Wolf tradition of using the smelliest powders known to man and crappy packaging but really a real life loss of almost 400fps from what the ammo company said is pretty sad.

I also bought some 30-30 Wolf gold and not only is it slow,it barely breaks 2000fps with a 150gr bullet, and not really all that accurate, but it doesnt like to eject and is showing flattened primers! Yeah sign me up for more!

What did you pay for the .357? I don't expect anything Wolf to be top of the line. But in the category of cheap plinking and practice I am not above saving a few bucks. That velocity does not seem out of line with other commercial brands. Bill

I paid $15 for 50 so its more expensive than the Blazer brass. I wasnt too impressed with the Blazer though, it wasnt accurate and i had one round that didnt fire on the first strike and it wasnt a light hit.

I didnt expect Wolf to be the best either but i was hoping fpr something in the same general range as what they claimed velocity wise.

Antihero, what revolver were you firing this Wolf ammo in?

As for the claimed velocity, from what I could find out I think they are using a 8" test barrel. However, I don't know if that is a universal test rifle or whether the barrel was vented to simulate the barrel gap in a revolver or not.

I got a box of this stuff at a recent gun show as well to test in my Rossi 971. I have yet to fire it over a chrony though.

wasn't even aware Wolf made anything in revolver calibers. Thanks for the warning. Is this steel cased or brass cased?

Its brass cased

I shot it from my GP100 with a 6" barrel
