Wolf springs

No, I’ve never had a light strike with either the Wolf standard power or the factory spring as long as the strain screw was properly tightened. I am also running the Wolf reduced power springs in several J, L and N frame guns without problems.

Wolff springs are great, check for some obstruction or maybe a burr on/in your weapon.

Among my K- and L-frame guns...

I personally have never had light strikes with Wolf mainsprings in any of my S&W revolvers. They are in all of my range and defense guns. I only asked because someone told me recently that even the standard power should not be used in defense guns because you might get light strikes with some primers. Wondered if anyone has had a problem. The only thing that I have noticed, with a new Wolf mainspring in a round butt K or L, the spring will hit the rebound block when the hammer is pulled all the way back in single action until it sets in.

With a new Wolf mainspring, I have had the rebound block hit the spring in single action. You can see it comming into contact with the rebound with the sideplate off, and feel it when you pull the hammer back fully. All my guns have factory strain screws. In double action it doesn't happen because the hammer drops sooner. After a couple of hundred rounds, the spring sets, and there is no contact with the rebound. Next time that you put a new one in a round butt, cock the gun with the sideplate off and see if the spring hits the rebound. Let me know if it happens.

With the Reduced power mainspring in an N frame, I've had a few light strikes firing double action. Winchester primers, .45ACP cases in moon clips. With that spring, I can run only Federal primers. With the Factory weight Wolff spring, never a problem. I have several of them.

Excuse the lack of proper terminology, I don't want to keep hitting my back button to get it right. Nontheless, I put Wolff springs in my model 15, 640-1, and model 12. I did have a fail to fire in the model 12 using factory ammo and the reduced power spring -- I installed the lightest of the 3; and if I have any more non-fires, I'll put in the standard Wolff. I'll run a couple boxes of ammo thru it next time at the range.
What really amazed me is how accurate my shooting was with the 640-1 (38+p) with the Wolff springs installed!
And I shoot double action only, for the most part, with my revolvers.
