too harsh. this is already tantamount to human rights violation!
Ants and hornets don't have human rights. But I take your point. We can use molasses so as to not unnecessarily kill the poor insects.
Unless I am much mistaken, there was a Democrat president in 1995.
Uh...she's being arrested and prosecuted by minions of the current administration.
When it come to usurpation of civil liberties, its looking more and more like Democrat = Republican. How in the world did this nation come to be ruled by the Stupid & Evil Party?

:D Excellent question, however, it cannot be adequately addressed unless/until one defines which party is Stupid and which one is Evil...

OTOH if we consider both major parties stupid and evil I suppose the answer becomes self evident. :scrutiny:

We did it to ourselves because as a practical matter half the population is by definition stupid. If even 1% of the other half agrees with the stupid half - well... (OH CRAP! Old Dog - are you paying attention? I think on some level I just agreed with one of your major contentions about what's wrong with our government. ;) )

So it is Bush's fault that some woman was arrested under a 10 year old policy of checking ID's at a bus stop in a single city in the middle of the US? I'd better get off a scathing letter to Bush myself....the crossing guard down the street was 10 minutes late yesterday, leaving the poor children to cross the street unprotected. Can't believe Bush didn't get someone there sooner.

Hey, I voted for him twice, what else do you want from me?
I'm just glad the Republicans are in power to restrain the growth of government, curtail spending and guard individual liberties against government intrusion........

Is it the Captain's fault when--while he's off-shift and sleeping--the officer on duty runs the ship aground?

Navy seems to think so. A manager is responsible for the actions of those he leads.

I won't blame Bush personally for the way the policy is enforced, though, as the Chief Executive, he does have the power to set guidelines for the agency. However, now that this case has made national news, it's highly unlikely that he doesn't know about it. Why hasn't he told the prosecutors to let it go? You know, prosecutorial discretion?

I always thought the proper method to deal with Evil Deeds such as this poor lady endured was to:

1. Obey.
2. Find a lawyer.
3. File suit in the appropriate jurisdiction about the violation of your rights.
4. Abide by the outcome or file an appeal.

Etc., etc.

PS: Any more Bush-bash gets this thread closed. Or Clinton-bash; I don't care. I'm an equal-opportunity locker-upper.

No, we should collect 99.9% of the :cuss: up (Ron Paul and the one or two others who UNDERSTAND the Constitution aside) paint them liberally with hot tar and cover them with turkey feathers, bullet ants and Japanese hornets. :fire:

Baring that, this might suffice to get the point across: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=42379
Good article, indeed.

This is the reason that I advocate, with virtually no exceptions, voting against any incumbent, regardless of party. The reason is simple: The career politicians have fogotten that the founding fathers never contemplated having career, lifetime parasites running the country. The original idea was that citizens would take some time off from their normal work to run the country, then they'd go home and work at their real work.

Since the career parasites will not voluntarily limit their terms of office, we must do it for them. Throw the bums out. Vote against any incumbent, anywhere you see one. Let's face it ... the possibility of accidently voting out someone worthwhile is astronomically small.

The problem with this is that many courts will say you don't have standing if you haven't actually been arrested. In fact, I think the DC gun ban is one of the more famous examples of that. And I can think of a few other cases in which going to the courts would have been less effective than simply disobeying the law--one in particular involving a bus.

3. File suit in the appropriate jurisdiction about the violation of your rights.
Courts are making it increasingly difficult to establish "standing".
Complaining that someone wants to check ID on a bus will get ignored.
Getting arrested for not showing ID forces court attention.

+1.

P.S. Do I understand correctly that we are not allowed to criticize politicians in positions of power on this web site, or did I misunderstand something?

RTD bus that made a regular stop at the Denver Federal Center. Each time, federal police boarded the bus and asked passengers for ID.

:cuss: She was not asking to ENTER the federal building, so what possible right do these brownshirts from Der Fatherland Security have to demand her ID?

Update:

It appears that there is a temporary resolution to this case, for now.

As reported by MSNBC News, the charges against Davis have been dropped on a technicality.

According to the article, the road that the RTD Bus travels is in fact Federal Property.
