Guns and self defense
I see one thing missing here... something I've discussed seriously over the past 30 years and to many people are still missing the point of this...
The American public as it currently exists, was mainly raised on Television. Television has consistnetly been programing the American public since the early 60's.... and it's done it's job well. Most Americans now think that Firearms are bad... yes it's absurd.. but it's true. watch the news. Anyone found with anything like what I used to consider a normal amount of ammo or weapons for a shooter is now a "Crazy" of some type or another....
Now, the shooting community is SHRINKING!!! fewer and fewer people are shooting. There are fewer places to shoot, fewer places to buy firearms et all... and we're in DEEP trouble....
The single most important thing that ANY shooter in America should be doing, is to introduce a non-shooter to shooting... and do so in the most careful terms... because if you do so badly, you re-enforce the stereotype...
Do NOT shoot at bottles, do not blow things up, etc... punch paper... yes I kow it's boring... but it shows a responsible shooter.. what you do by yourself is your business...
At the same time, teach these people about safety.. handle the weapons carefully... do the whole routine and tear down the stereotypes that we're now stuck with... yes I know this is not going to be popular... but folks we're in deep trouble.. and unless this is turned around... in 50 (actually not even that long) years or so... they can come in and take the few firearms left easily.. because there won't be but a few shooters left..
Remember what we're come from... in the 40's.. most people shot or weren't afraid of firearms... in the 50's.. it was pretty much the same.. but things started changing in the 70's.... and now we're in trouble.. far worse then a lot of people realize.
One more thing... get off the couch and do it! Don't talk about it.. get it done!
