Wonder if there's be a market for this type of Glock?

Well, I never thought I'd own a Glock, but I do, a 17, and I like it. I was just wondering, because I do like the .45 round, but don't like the grip of a 21 (too big), and really don't care for the 36... what if Glock made a full size, single stack type of .45 that used the regular type .45 mags we already own, as well as a Glock mag? Think that might sell? I mean, their ad copy does say "Slim is in!" for the 36...

...single stack type of .45 that used the regular type .45 mags we already own,

Hell will be air-conditioned before Glock builds a gun that will use anyone else's magazines.

Many people were hoping (myself among them) that the Glock 37 was going to be a single stack 45 ACP. When it was introduced in 45 GAP I was underwhelmed and remain so. Oh well, I was getting tired of trying to cope with the stupid Glock trigger pull anyway. I'm back to carrying 1911s and shooting better.

If Glock paid any attention to this board, long ago they would have produced:

1. A full size version of the 36, with a 5 inch barrel and a full length grip.

2. A slim version of the 26.

3. A 34-35 size gun in .357 Sig.

But I guess they're selling all the guns they can make already, which is why Kahr and Springfield are starting to poach on their business.

Love the idea of a full size (or thereabouts) G-36, but NOT with 1911's mags. Too much "tolerence creep" over the years, and it still seems manufacturers don't quite have 1911 mags for hollowpoints or SWC's nailed down after over 50 years of fiddling.

If you search over 1911 forum I think the single most common piece of advice is "Try a new mag" or the ever popular thread: "Brand X mags are the BEST and work great!"- "Really they won't run in my guns at all, brand Y are the best"---"Some of my guns work with X while others work with Y..."etc..

Lots of great things about the 1911, the magazine is not one of them IMHO...

I don't care if it is their own magazine but I have said since TFL that they missed the boat by not going with a metal mag and catch. They could have been so much thinner and taken all of Kahr's share.

I guess I'm the only one that would like to see a compact Glock .45 with a 4" barrel, and a full grip. Granted, the 30 has a barrel that's nearly 4" but the grip is too short for it to feel comfortable for me.

I think a fullsize, single stack 45 acp from Glock would be pretty popular & I bet it would still have a 10 round capacity too!

When the G36 was new, I asked Glock rep Chris Edwards how many rounds he thought a single stack .45 the size of a G17 would hold. He said "Eight or nine, we've tried it."

The "Smith & Walther" P99 in .45 has a 9 round magazine but it is slightly staggered and rather long. I think the Colt standard of 7 with almost unlimited spring life and 8 with care and maintenance are reasonable.

At one time Steyr said they were going to make an M45 to take 1911 magazines. That sounded good, it would have moved them towards a more normal grip angle. But they changed their mind because of the wide variability of 1911 magazine dimensions and quality and planned on a proprietary magazine. Now it seems there is not enough of Steyr left to do much on new models.

We've been asking too

I thought that in addition to the single stack enlarged Model 36 (model 38?), especially in the absence of the mag ban, this model would work.

Full size high cap 9x21 or 9x23 or even a 38 super, be an off the shelf racegun with a light connector for around a 3.5 lb trigger pull. The capacity would probably be 19 or 20. This gun would sell well in places where the citizens can't own military calibers and would probably give the various open categories in domestic gun games a handgun that would be competitve for much less than a STI or whatever.

An interesting note from my pal at Glock, the 37 was not designed for the US market. The south Americans have been shooting a 45 short for several years to get around the ban on military calibers, coincidentially, the 45 GAP is a beefed up 45 short. If the 37 sells, ok, but if not theres the rest of the world.

If glock made a single stack fullsize gun in the .45GAP (NOT the .45acp) I'd buy it today. Such a gun would fit my hands perfectly. I'd buy a single stacked full sized .40 s&w too, ah well! :neener:

As I said before I would like a full size 36 for carry, but not sure when/if it comes out if it's really going to be all that popular with actual shooters, and maybe even less so with the competition crowd. Glocks tend to be really comfy to shoot due to the wide grips which spread recoil out. Some claim the comfort is due to 'Poly frame flex"; doubt you can find many G-36 shooters who buy into that line ;)

In short if you compare the comfort of shooting and split times of a 1911 that weighs well over twice as much as the Glock "38" were thinking of would, the Glock may not fair very well at all....

I still want one though :D

My G36

My 36 May not be as comfortable to shoot with 230 +P as the 21 is, but it's more fun to shoot than a P-10 or LW Commander with the same loads.

Yes! If Gaston would come up with a single stack version of the 21 with the slimline treatment like the 36 I would camp out at the gun store waiting for them to come in.

A similarly treated Glock 20 10MM would be cool too :D
