This was the ammo selection at my local Gander Mountain today.

Six boxes of 10mm Blazer, six boxes of 45 Colt FMJ, and six boxes of 45 Colt JHP. And that's it. Academy had NO pistol ammo to speak of...zero, zilch, nada. I went to the range today and they were asking $40 a box for .45 ACP Remington "Green Box." I paid it, like an idiot, because I really wanted to shoot my XDm 45 Compact today.

Luckily I stocked up on 9mm before the election. I still have about 2,000 rounds of that. But 45 ACP....nope, didn't do that. Guess I'll just have to take a .45 hiatus until things cool down.

Any bets on when prices (and sanity) are gonna return to normal?

Mine had a lot of 40 S&W, and....... are you ready?

Winchester 55 gr. 5.56! About 50 20 rd boxes. I bought a couple of boxes, but at $12.27 for 20 rds, I wasn't going to buy a lot. If I didn't already have a little 5.56 put away for a rainy day I might of, but anyway.....

Still no 9mm, but to see 5.56 made me pretty happy.

Was finally able to grab 5 boxes of reasonably-priced 9mm ($12/box) 9mm on Friday. Also grabbed a few boxes of 5.56mm frangible ammo (though I'm pretty well-stocked on .223/5.56mm).

Still can find ANY .22LR, and haven't seen any in over a month (other than ratshot). Seriously, people, what's with the panic buying of .22LR?

And what's with all the ratshot/snakeshot? I'm sure manufacturers could be focusing more on ammo there is actually a demand for.

My LGS had been loaded with ammo until last weekend. Now they only sell ammo for use in the range.

I don't see it improving.

Last Friday, at a LGS, I paid $29.99 for a box of 50 .45 ACP Federal Hi-Shoks (JHP). It was the last box so I also bought a box of 50 .45ACP FMJs (Independent I think) for some range time. I thought the price was high until I started calling around town and it turned out to be the cheapest I could find.

When I got to the range I asked if they had any cheap .45 ACP and they wanted $27.99 a box (50 rounds, FMJ). In contrast, a buddy told me this morning that he found some .45 ACP WWB at Walmart for $19.99 a box (50 rounds) over the weekend. I called 3 Walmarts locally on Friday and they all said they were out and weren't sure when more would come in.

This price increase is really putting a damper on my range time! :banghead:

My local Walmart gets resupplied regularly, and the trick is knowing when the shelves got stocked. Yesterday morning, they had a bunch of 9mm (approx. 24 cents a round) and .45 (approx. 40 cents per round) 100 round bulk packs. They have not run out of .40 ball for a while (approx. 50 cents per round). They limit purchasers to 3 boxes total per day.

I think that people who don't usually keep a big supply of factory ammo on hand are buying in quantities exceeding their prior practice, and customary supply cannot keep up with inflated demand.

The ammo is out there it's just a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Unfortunately until everyone quits stalking the stock boy and draining the shelf the instant it hits the ammo shortage won't ever end. Empty shelves drive sales more than anything else.

Roll thy own, brothers, roll thy own. Looking for good deals on military surplus and private sales never hurts either.

And yeah, nearly every one of 'em is stuffed full. The ammo's all in white boxes from Midway, with a few exceptions. Some are packed full of loose .22's (4 different brands in 4 cans), four cans are full to the brim with loose or clipped 7.62x54R rounds, some cans are packed tight with 8 bandoliers of M2 ball in enblocs, etc., etc. But very few have any breathing room in 'em. There's a LOT of weight on those poor shelves.

That's a lot of ammo in one spot. My stash is nowhere near that and I still worry about it being in one spot.
