I just got off the phone today with Tac Pro Shooting Center and they've scheduled a basic shotgun class at the end of February. I went ahead and paid in full and tallied my round count to see if I have enough ammo set aside for the class. I was 50 rounds short on buck shot so I just orderd more. I just recently took the Stage-1 shotgun class in Amarillo, TX with Lous Awerbuck but I've been itching to take another shotgun class. I hope nothing happens from now untill then and the class goes through. Anyway, I just wanted to share.

Awerbuck's Shotgun I class is a wonderful experience, isn't it? We've been hooked on shotgun classes for years and have benefitted from every one of them.

Good going on this upcoming course. What shotgun are you planning to use?

great training pro. congrats on the class. i need to do more shotgun training and plan to do so in the 08 training season, where? probally tactical response but i am open to others. yes please post an aar and pics it is mandatory, as you know we can't believe what yuo write if there are no pics!:)

"What shotgun are you planning to use?"

Robert,
I'll be using a Remington 870 express 12 ga that has been up and down the road from tacticool to old school. It's currently set up with a 20 in IC bbl with XS rifle sights, factory LE walnut stocks, R3 recoil pad, factory LE three round extension kit with sling swivels on the barrel clamp and butstock. I also have a single point sling plate for it depending on what sling technique we'll be using. I have both a wilderness tactical standard carry sling and a wilderness tactical single point sling for it.

As for Louis Awerbuck's shotgun class, I had alot of fun and learned alot. I really was scatter brained the first few days after the class. He bombarded us with so much info that it took a few days to sort it out, if that makes any sense? We were always under stress while shooting which is a good thing. I'm looking forward to this next class to compare what is put out between the two classes. I've taken several calsses at Tac-Pro with Bill and can't wait to go.

Anything like this offered anywhere in KY? What do you ask for, a tactical shotgun class? I've been interested in getting training since my primary HD weapon is a Mossy 500.

What topics do they cover?
What situation do they cover?
How much shooting do you do?

Cost????

Here's the 2008 schedule for Yavapai Firearms Academy, Ltd where Louis Awerbuck teaches. They pretty much travel around so that more people can be provided an opportunity to get training where there wouldn't normally be any offered in one's particular area.

I took Bill's shotgun class, and it was absolutely awesome. Bill is a real pro with proficiency is a lot of areas. However, his favorite thing is shotguns, and it really shows. You are going to learn all about all types of ammo, choking techniques, history of the shotgun, and you will learn to operate that 870 like you can't believe. The "Jungle Run" is an experience you will not soon forget. Bill asked us several questions at the end of the class. One of those was "What do you feel like you gained from this class?" My answer was "If I ever have to I can give a damned good account of myself." I look forward to your report after class.

Snarlingiron,
You wouldn't have been in that issue of S.W.A.T. magazine with the article about that shotgun class? Tim who did the article was also present during my Advanced Pistol class that I took at Tac-Pro about 14 months ago. I'm counting the days until the class. Kinda like watching a pot of water boil:banghead:.

I will be interested in your detailed AAR :) and how this Tac Pro class differs from you Awerbuck class.

Thanks,

ky man,
i found this the other day they have classes on shotguns in and around the Louisville area although i think they mostly just train with pistols.(along with rifles, pepper spray, cane and baton classes) they didnt give a good description of the combat shotgun class but i plan on giving em a call sumtime this week.

I just called in for my hotel reservations for the weekend. I'll be driving down the morning of the class and will be staying friday and saturday night. This waiting is killing me! I can't stand waiting for a class to come around:banghead:. I have everything I need for the class. All I have to do is pack it up. I will take plenty of pics of the class. I filmed video of the advanced pistol class that I took down there a little over a year ago. I've been asked not to post it on the net but the video was a great teaching tool at the end of each day. We as a class reviewed it and used it during the daily AAR to point out what we were doing wrong.
