Two choices make sense to me, IMHO:
1. If you want to shoot a stock .22 semiauto, get a Marlin 60, for a number of reasons. It's less expensive, has a heavier barrel, and it's a better shooter. Mine is much more reliable and not finicky about ammo. It has a standard stock that fits much better with a scope. Standard stock is laminate, even if it's finished in plain brown stain.
2. If you want a 10/22, you probably won't be keeping it as-is for long. The barrel and stock usually go in the dumpster first. So, just get whichever version is on sale and shoot it until you start modifying it (or sell it again like me).
