My kids are in scouts and their troop hosted an event at Mike Raahague’s shooting park this weekend. About 650 scouts arrived and were treated to various shooting related events; trap, smallbore rifle and BB gun target shooting, tomahawk throwing, even slingshots had a range where the kids could send shot down range.
Camping areas
.22 range
Merit badge stations
Trap station.
I just missed the kids shooting Red Ryders.
Taking aim with slingshots.
Another shot of the .22 ranges along with the 30 minute firearms safety lecture the kids were required to go through before going to the rsnge and shooting.
As can be expected there was a large focus on gun safety and proper handling, with hundreds of So Cal city kids in attendance I will bet 1/2 to 2/3 of the kids got their first taste of “real” shooting today. I really hope today plants a seed and many of the kids become tomorrow’s responsible gun owners. We need all we can get to keep the 2nd breathing in this clearly anti gun and anti freedom state.
As with all scout events there were tons of other merit badge stuff; CPR, knots, natural history, American history, even auto mechanics and cooking.
A huge thank you to Mike Raahagues shooting enterprises for the facility, California Rifle and Pistol Association for providing dozens of RSO’s and safety instruction, Sheriff Chad Bianco and Riverside County deputies for search and rescue demos and Riverside County Fire for first aid/CPR training and Eastvale troop 2017G for putting it all on.
Even though I am beat after arriving at 4:00 am to start flipping pancakes and then running all day here and there as needed, I am really glad I was able to help out a bit. If you ever get a chance to give back a bit on the range with kids like this, I hope you give it a shot!
Stay safe.
