Beat-up plastic stock, super lightweight, with a 4x fixed Tasco Pronghorn that hasn't ever once gone off zero, on top of a set of $5 see-through rings.

I thought I had already posted in this thread, since that is exactly what I was going to say. The only difference is my 4x scope isn't a Tasco, and it was prairie dogs not chipmunks that were getting popped. It was my first rifle, and countless hours of not so gentle use and at least 5k rounds later, it is my go to rifle for anything that I can get away with using if for (obviously can't use it to hunt dear).

The bottom one for everything except deer hunting on purpose. It is .22 WMR. The top one for deer hunting on purpose. It is a .270.

If it's "C'mon, let's go" and I don't have any more to go on than that...

I'll grab my trusty Marlin 30-30.

It's a carbine made in 1962, with spray in bedliner on the stocks and a Bushnell 2-10X40 in see-through mounts.

The whole rifle is painted flat black.

It shoots EVERY time.

The scope and mounts have proven stable and don't require frequent adjustment.

With the right bullets(And I still have some) it has shot at or near 1MOA from the bench.

It carrys easily.

It won't rust.

It doesn't freak out the non- gun types.

Another scratch won't matter at all.

I've shot it a lot, and it feels like an old friend in my hands. I trust it.

Show me a man sized target at 200 yards, and I'll show you a man sized target that's got a serious problem on it's hands.

It has enough power for anything I might need a rifle for.

It's arguably the best rifle there is for our Southeast Texas Piney Woods where you can't see fifty yards and the smallish deer found here.

How could I go wrong with this rifle?

I've got prettier, and I've got more expensive, and I have some that hold more bullets, and I have some that are more accurate.

I'm going to grab this one.

I could tell my story, but it's the same as the posters..

My Weatherby Vanguard .270 was ~150$ at walmart in the mid 80s. Anytime time I expect to shoot I take that with me. Rain, snow, hot, cold... A lot of deer, coyotes, and pigs. Sportview scope on it.. Got that sometime in the 90s for 30 somethin bucks. No one who uses my rifle can hit anything with it, but I've never had a problem.
