Would a gun trust for standard (non-NFA) firearms offer any legal protection?

I've been asked about the benefits of creating a trust that would legally own all one's firearms, that would ostensibly protect from potential laws that would prohibit an owner from passing firearms on to his children and requiring that they be submitted to the government, etc. I don't know anything about trusts or their benefits in this type of situation; anyone here have knowledge?

thanks

That would depend on how the proposed AWB was worded. They could easily do it in a way that the trust workaround would not work. I personally think that this sort of non-transferable grandfathering would not fly politically.

Benefits of Gun Trust for all Firearms

Many of the same benefits exist for normal firearms as NFA firearms and a properly designed Gun Trust should be able to deal with both. as far as the proposed legislation, we will have to see what is actually proposed and passed but many think that a multi-generational gun trust could allow future family members to have and use firearms that were not permitted to be transferred any more. I have been writing about it over the last few weeks at the GunTrustLawyer.com blog.
