would +P ammo work with Smith & Wesson's M&P 9mm?

The manual for the M&P doesn't confirm nor deny the use of +P ammo. It only states that +P ammo cannot be used in revolvers before 1948 (date may be a little off), and +P+ ammo cannot be used at all?

Can +P ammo work properly in an M&P 9mm without more risk of messing up the gun than regular 9mm ammo?

What I got my eyes on is the CarBon PowRBall, but in 9mm Luger, it only comes in +P

I would hope so...S&W didn't make a wimp gun did they?
My older glock 19 -1989 shoots + P and +P+ with little or no problem...

+P won't hurt your gun...

I would imagine so. Don't very many LE agencies issue +P to their officers? If they were trying to get into that market, it'd be foolish not to make it +P capable. Imagine if the new Mercedes-Benz had every cool feature possible except power windows. Won't sell too many like that.

Well let`s see,the 9mm M&P is built with the same frame and slide as the .40 and new .357 Sig versions but the 9mm has thicker chamber/barrel walls and is less powerful even in +P+ form. Add to that the fact that the M&P was designed for Military & Police and that NATO 9mm is all loaded to +P levels and that most police agencys that issue 9mms use loads like Speed 124gr.+P GoldDot or 127gr. Win. Ranger +P I wouldn`t give shooting +P in your M&P a second thought. :) Marcus

I would have to agree. It would make no sense at all for S&W to put a pistol on the market that would not support +P ammo. You could try emailing S&W and asking. They are good about getting back with an answer pretty fast.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah the M&P should work perfectly with +P but does S&W state it somewhere? I've looked all over. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough?

Okay I called S&W, and the customer service guy said that +P can be used on M&P

Yep. Sadly, +P+ wouldn't work. Or maybe it would work, but it's not recommended (the customer service guy was saying "ummmmmm" for a very long time.

As I said, maybe the M&P can handle +P+ ammo. S&W just don't want the liability covered in the warranty. They said that NONE of their guns work with the +P+

IMHO, I think using +P+ on an M&P is one step safer than some reloads

+P+ Ammo

As far as I know, no manufacturer 'recommends' the use of +P+ Ammo because there is no SAAMI standard for it. A +P+ load could be anything above +P to the point of kaboom. Use at your own risk might be another way to say +P+.

+P OK

The MP's can handle +P ammo but I wouldn't use it for plinking, just for self defense. I have never used +P in my MP 9mm compact but I wouldn't hesitate to use it for carrying. My wife accidently ran of a cylinder of 38+P's at the range in her S & W 642 snubbie. Quite a shock! :what: She quickly went back to regular 38 ammo for range shooting.

Lots of good info regarding MP's at the MP forum.
