Ok shopping for a 9mm. I like the Sig 229 Equinox which is a .40 caliber but I want a 9mm.

So would Sig finish a 9mm 229 and have the Nitron finish, nickel trim and wood grips just like the .40 but in a 9mm.

So it would be this gun but it would be a 9mm. Is that possible or keep looking.

Sig doesn't list it in 9mm.

I'm sure if you paid them enough, they'd refinish a 9mm 229 for you.

It might be possible to install a 9mm barrel, but I've never seen how that would be reliable enough for a defense gun.

I dont know if it would be that easy and just switch out the barrel? it would be nice. They seem to be the same gun just the finish and accents are different between the two guns besides on being a 9mm and the other a .40. I dont see how it wouldnt be reliable as a defense gun.

I bought a 9mm conversion barrel from Bar-Sto for my standard 229. Not sure if the barrel in the Eqinox is any different, but if it isn't then you can go that route. With the barrel and a 9mm magazine it converts quickly. Had some functional issues when the mag was new, but seems to be working reliably now. I only use the 9mm for cheaper practice so I don't care that the slide says .40 S&W (edit - I just looked and the slide on my old 229 doesn't even have a caliber designation.
The only place it is shown is on the chamber portion of the barrel visible through the ejection port. So this may not even be an issue). If you do then that would also be a problem. Obviously there is also the possibility of inadvertently mixing parts and accidently chambering a 9mm in the .40 barrel. I don't take both configurations to the range just to try and avoid that mistake.

If it could work with the Equinox the downside is needing to invest an additional $250 above the base gun. However, you do end up with a nifty convertable.:D

The .40 slide has a .40 breechface. This, of course, is larger than necessary for the 9mm. I've never tried the 9mm barrel installed in a .40, but I don't think I'd want to do it and use it as my defense gun in that configuration.

...

In the Sig thread, many many pages, 1blindref bought what he described as "the poor mans Equinox, as, IIRC, Sig put together a few models with left-over slides but weren't as expensive as the real deal and something makes me think it was a 9mm as well, just don't recall if it was a P226 or 229, but he listed it with the pic of it in his, that, thread..

Might want to see if you can find it.. Lot's of good pics, and IF you find it, you could PM him about it..

And, as mentioned, 9mm barrel will not work in 40cal/slide - too big - O, barrel too small - 0

Luck,

Ls

If I wanted that look really bad I will get in touch with Todd at Customized Creations and see what he could do for me, then just send him a 229 in 9mm and have him perform his magic on it, it would be one of a kind.....
