Colonization to establish a new order more to one's liking is a time honored way to defer the problems associated with political decrepitude.
A fresh start, with no deadwood on the field, plus the wisdom and knowledge associated with previous wreckage can open the door to some marvelous possibilities.
After all, that's how we got here!
That being said, no one has solved the problem of peaceably restarting a truly free society in place, once the decrepitude set in.
Once again, I guess it's up to us to lead the way.
The idea of leaving Earth and traveling the galaxy has enamored me since I read my first sci-fi novel (Red Planet by RAH) when I was in the 6th Grade.
There's been many a time, late at night with a clear sky that I've gazed up at the stars and wondered what was out there and wishing I could go find out.
HELL YEAH I'd go! Just for the adventure of it all. Just to be able to know what's out there. Being able to go to a more free place would just be icing on the cake.
I voted yes, on the condition that we can get there before the liberals screw it up. Sure would be nice to have an entire planet dedicated to a libertarian leaning constitutional republic.
If it was like in the sci-fi shows where the alien planets all have a blue sky, real trees, real grass, and maybe an extra moon in the sky, sure.
If it was a survivable but totally foreign ecosystem, don't think I could stand to do more than visit. Heck, I couldn't even be comfy in California 'cause y'all don't have real seasons there!
My son (5) is going to be an astronaut and take me to the moon.
At least that's what he claims... I hope he can pull it off. Of course I'll probably be 70 by the time he makes it.....if I live that long.
Always been fascinated by the moon. I'd really like to make the hop and back.
If I had to live my life entirely indoors, I would go crazy. It would have to be really, really bad here for me to move to mars. If there was a better option, say with a Nitrogen/Oxygen atmosphere and liquid water, I'm there.
Give me the chance and I'm off this mudball so fast it would make your head spin.
Part of me would love to secretly set up a dome on Mars and be wearing bib overalls and carrying a shotgun when the first astronauts land. "Git off ma land!"
That and I'd be tempted to build a real "face on mars" that isn't a trick of the light that so many people have latched on to.
